    2. Hi Beverlee & Nancy, Census enumeration began June 1, 1840 and usually took several months. Depending on how fast the census taker worked, he may not have made it to Chileab's home before he died or if he was living with another family, his name won't be listed at all. The 1840 index is only by Head of Household.
