I am looking for SCORDO family they lived in Cleveland area. They came from Italy born about 1880"s Thank you Shirley
Yes, I am quite sure this would be the family I am seeking. Obediah married SARAH SWINEHART ( guessing abt 1862 as she was born abt 1844 in OH). Their first child , WILLIAM ELMER SMITH, was born in 1864 in IN. He was my grandfather, but I never knew him as he died in 1922 and I was born in 1927. Thank you for your help and any suggestions. Rose - Thank you for your diligence in researching the Samuel W. Smith request for 1840. I appreciate all of the comparing that you did with the handwriting in trying to determine if a listing is truly a Samuel M. Smith in Ashtabula Co, OH, in 1840. Yes, I am able to receive images, so would be delighted to receive the page that lists, as indexed, Samuel M. Smith, for Ashtabula Co, OH, in 1840. Thank you in advance for your help. The enumerater was hitting the sauce when the census was indexed. The head-of-household was listed as a 4 year old girl. The index takes you to Morrow county rather than Mercer. I looked through Morrow county and found no Vangundy. I then went to Mercer Co,Center Twp but it consisted of one page (I assume the others were lost). I went through all the Mercer county townships and found no page 338. The following is all the data available: Washington is listed as Wash. Wash Vangundy,35,M,b.1824 OH. Elizabeth,26,F,b.1833 OH. Mary E.,9,F,b.!850 OH. George,8,M,b.1851 OH. Abraham,7,M,b.1852 OH. Amd,4,F,b.1855 OH. Need census for: Name: WASHINGTON VANGUNDY State: OH County: Mercer County Township: Center Township Year: 1860 Record Type: Federal Population Schedule Page: 338 Database: OH 1860 Federal Census Index
Hi Frances, Here are a couple of possibilities but since the 1840 only has head of household and then others only by male/female age groupings it is hard to tell if you have the right family. First the counties you mentioned; 1840, OH, Geauga Co, Chardon, pg 164; Samuel Smith, head; Males; 2 in age 15 - 20; 2 in age 50 - 60; Females; 1 in age 10 - 15; 1 in age 15 - 20; 1 in age 40 - 50; end of this household. 1840, OH, Ashtabula, Kingsville, pg 299 -note- the index has him as Samuel M. Smith and in checking the M to see if it could be W--I think it is an M but also the name appears to me to be James not Samuel. The writers J's and S's are almost identical except for a little extra curly Q he seems to put on the S. There are other names on that page starting with S and J (including a Samuel with a different last name) and in comparing the names, I think it is James M but here is the reading in case I am mistaken especially since the age seems to match up with your Samuel. pg 299; Samuel M. Smith, (as indexed) head; Males; 1 under 5; 1 in age 20 - 30; Females; 1 under 5; 1 in age 20 - 30; end of this household. In the whole state of OH using Samuel W. Smith these are the only 2 that came up in the index; 1840, OH, Hamilton Co, Cinn Ward 7, pg 287; Males; 1 under 5; 1 in age 5 - 10; 1 in age 10 - 15; 1 in age 40 - 50; Females; 1 in age 5 - 10; 1 in age 20 - 30; end of this household. 1840, OH, Washington Co, Westly, pg 367; Samuel W. Smith, head; Males; 1 under 5; 3 in age 5 - 10; 1 in age 30 - 40; Females; 1 under 5; 1 in age 5 - 10; 1 in age 30 - 40; end of this household. Hope there is something here to help. I also checked Trumbull and Portage Counties since they are close to Ash, Gea & Lake but didn't come up with anything from them. If you can receive images, I can try to send the image to you personally for the Ash. Co reading since there is some question of what the name is. Luke Scheer is seeking Lawrence Braddock age 37, spouse Cora age 36 and children. Known children from 1920 Falls Twp census would be Joseph E age 16, Catherine E age 15 and Ralph age 10. One or both of Lawrence's parents (Thomas age 79, Catherine age 78) may be living with them.
May I please have a lookup for Samuel W. Smith in OH, possibly Lake, Geauga or Ashtabula Co, in the 1840 census. He was not found in the 1840 census in IN, although I have information that he was admitted to the Bar (Attorney) in Jackson Co, IN, in 1841. He was born in about 1811. Eating humble pie, I really do mean OH this time! Thank you in advance for your help. Frances
I apologize - too late at night and sent to the wrong state. I did miss the OH site while it was unavailable. Please accept my apologies. Frances
May I please have a lookup for Samuel W. Smith, probably in Jackson Co, IN. He was born in about 1811. He was living in Brownstone Township in the 1850 census. Thank you in advance for your help. I missed this site while rootsweb was temporarily "down." Frances
Hi! Some have argued for - some against - the name of one I seek being Sarah Etta STOCKHAM. Some have said it should read Sarah Ella STOCKHAM.
