Searching for Eileen Juanita Nix born 19 Feb 1920 Parents: Benjamin Nix and Abbie Jane Lowe The date of birth I was given was 19 Feb 1920. Family of Benjamin and Abbie and daughter Alta on the 1920 federal census in Hamilton, Ohio, Butler County. Family information says they later went on to Missouri. Another problem is that the name shows up on her son's birth record (June 1940) as Eileen Juanita Hicks born in Dallas County Missouri 19 Feb 1920...but her family is in Ohio in January 1920. Anyone see a Benjamin Nix and family in 1930 Ohio? Thanks Susanne
Dear Jennifer thanks for looking, no he was in England in 1901, but his parents and siblings were in Trumbull. I cannot find a death for him in England, so I wondered if in his old age he had gone there to join his family. If you cannot find him, it probably means I am barking up the wrong tree, he must have died in England somewhere, I cannot find a death for him or his wife Mary, but will keep looking. Thanks for trying, all best wishes from Linda.
The 1910 is indexed by HOH. If he was living with family he may not be indexed separately. If you can provide the family names, ages, etc. that were here then perhaps he is with them... Could SKS please check for a Richard Haynes/Haines/Hanes in Trumbull County 1910 please. Richard was born in England abt. 1837. His wife if she is still alive was Mary Ann. Thankyou very much from Linda Lamberg in England.
Hello Linda, Not having much luck, yet. Do you have him in another census year? children? any additional information might help narrow him down. I would like to request a look-up for John Eckert, b ca 1839, would be 10 or 11 at time of census, born Switzerland. The family is said to have arrived in Tuscarawas Co ca 1842 and he was married there in 1858, but he may have been in a neighboring county in 1850. Hoping to find him living with his parents to firm up family relationships. Presumed to have had a sister, Mary, b. ca 1842...about 7 or 8 in 1850. Family moved to Illinois 'during the war', so should be somewhere in Ohio in 1850. John later reports both parents as having been born in Switzerland as well. Name could be spelled numerous ways. Thank you so much for your effort. Merri
Jennifer, Thanks. That is something. However there are a bushel of Benjamins around. That is a ways from Monroe Co. I wonder why they would have moved there. The trouble is that there are so many Johnston/Johnsons. I never knew there were that many. Someone told me one time that it is easier if someone in the family was a horse thief or something or if they had an unusual name. Thank you for taking the trouble to check. I'll see what I can turn up in Athens. Someone who was not a genealogy buff asked me why I take the trouble to look for dead relatives. I told them at first it was curiosity, now it's like a great detective story. You just have to be careful it does not get to be an obsession. Anyway, that you so much for taking the trouble. Sandy
Welthy, Thank you for your help. It is like looking for a needle in a haystack. I never imagined that there were so many Benjamins in the world. The big problem is if she were never married and just moved there away from anyone who knew her, she could be from anywhere. I had thought perhaps from West Virginia, Pennsylvania or Canada. But this is a long way away for a single girl with no family in those days. If I let my imagine run wild, he could already have been married to someone else and helped her get the farm, but couldn't marry her. Uncle Howard did say that Benjamin had a half-brother. She probably had been married and he died just after the war. After all she had a farm. At her age she might have even had more children earlier and he was just the baby still at home helping to take care of the farm. He didn't marry until he was 24. For some reason neither Benjamin nor Catharine Iola talked much about their families, not even to tell their children what their grandparents' names were. Thanks for your help. Maybe this brick wall will crumble someday. Sandy
Sandy, Found a Benj. Johnson age 7 in Athens Twp, Athens, OH. son of a Rufus and Mary Johnson. Other Johnson families in Athens as well. If only we knew more about Airy, and if that was a given or nickname... Hi Sandy, I can certainly sympathize with you not finding what you are looking for on your Airy Johnston. I've been trying to dig one of mine out of the Allen County, Ohio information for about a year now and it has constantly eluded me. What I'm thinking is, Johnston very likely was not Airy's maiden name and there were many Johnson and Johnston families in Allen County so it's sort of like hunting a needle in a haystack.-NOT impossible but you surely can use all the help you can get. I've been watching your messages as they came up in the e-mail and will be glad to keep an eye out for any names you can come up with which are connected to her. Welthy
Jennifer, Thank you so much for all of your help and hard work. I appreciate it. Sandy
Hi Sandy, Thanks for the additional information. Found Benj and Iola/Kathryn/// in the 1900-1920 and noticed a son Solomon, and there was an older Solomon Johnston in Monroe from 1870-1900... as children were sometimes named after relatives, I thought perhaps Benj might be with him in the 1870, but no. Perhaps another lister will have better luck with the additional information.. Jenn, Thank you for your interest. Yes. Of course there is no 1890 census, but I followed her until, I think, 1900. She was living with someone by that time as domestic help. No record after that. She would have been almost 80 in 1910. She was born c. 1924. Benjamin is my great grandfather on my maternal grandmother's side. He and his wife, Catharine Iola Crook Johnston had seven or eight children. Their only girl, Mary, was my grandmother. She carried the Johnston name, but a couple of her brothers changed to Johnson. When Benjamin's son, Howard, was in early teens, they moved to Belmont Co., OH. I am going to guess that they might have had relatives there. The city is unknown. Then later they moved to Woodsfield in Monroe Co. Great Uncle Howard said that he never knew any of his grandparents. He was the baby and they were all deceased by the time he was born. All he knew is that he had a half-brother named Solomon that he knew and Catharine Iola had a half-sister, name unknown. The whole family beyond Airy Johnston is a brick wall. Since she did not appear in the 1870 census, I am going to suppose that she moved to Monroe Co. from somewhere else. I tried to use the 1870 whole state census, but could not read it. It was too light. Since Howard had a half-brother, the libarian ventured the thought that she had never been married and moved where no one would know her and she just said that she was a widow. Then again there was the Civil War and perhaps he died just after from war wounds. Benjamin was born c. 1862. I appreciate your work and your thoughts. Sandy
Hi Sandy, No problem.... but no success in finding them in the 1870..do you have any other information, did you find Benjamin in any later censuses? List, I am so sorry. It was a typo. It was meant to read Airy Johnston and instead came out Johnson. However, the descendants in the early 1900s spelled it both ways. Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Sandy

Dear List, I wonder if someone would have the time to check this census. I am searching for Airy Johnson, b. c. 1824 and any other relatives that can be found. In the 1880 census for Monroe Co., she had an 18 year old son, Benjamin. His birthdate was March, 1862. I think his middle initial was F. I haven't been able to find her before 1880. I believe that in 1880 she lived in Stafford, Monroe Co., OH. She is listed as a widow, but I have no idea who her husband was. Sorry, I can't offer any more information than this. It is entirely possible that she was not originally from Monroe Co., but this is a good starting place. Thanks for any help that you may have. Sandy
