    1. [ODONNELL] early 1800s Baltimore + New Orleans
    2. Frances O’Donnell born ca Oct 1824, Baltimore (age deduced from obituary) Frances O’DONNELL is believed to have a relationship to the family of Capt. John O’DONNELL, the Irish sea merchant who settled in Baltimore in 1785 and his son Gen. Columbus O’DONNALL. Frances O'DONNELL married (1840, New Orleans, St Mary’s parish) about age 16, William Phoenix ROGERS. Records indicate Wm. P. ROGERS was a sea captain, harbor pilot. Notary records in New Orleans show the family living there 1840-50. Interestingly, in some legal documents, Frances is refered to as “Mistress Frances O’DONNELL” *and* as the wife of William ROGERS in the *same* legal document. Perhaps Frances (O’DONNELL) had money in her own right? In the 1860 California census, she is shown as having $6000 in real estate (ca $130K in todays purchasing power) compared to -0- in her husband’s name.... There is an unproven family tradition of a relationship to Robert E. Lee, as at one time there was a letter from him in possession of a family member. Any insights as to who the father of Frances (O’DONNELL) ROGERS, b. 1824, Baltimore might be? Thank you, Bonnie Oakland, California
