KERNER b: November 27, 1886 in Brooklyn, New York d: March 13, 1959 in New York m: 1923 in New York I did finally find this in the 1870 census, Brooklyn, Kings County, New York, page 258: Michl O'Donnell, age 33, laborer, born in Ireland Mary O'Donnell, age 30, born in Ireland Alice O'Donnell, age 6 months, born in New York. (This would indicate that she was born Dec 1869 not 1870 or 1871??????) Hi Kathleen! Sorry to have taken so long to get back to you! The only couple who come close to your Mary and Michael are these 2 -Irish to America, 1846-1865 O'Donnell, Michael Age : 25 O'Donnell, Mary Age : 23 Country of Origin : Ireland Date of Arrival : May 20, 1863 Final Destination : USA Port of Debarkation : New York Ship's Name : Bridgewater Manifest ID Number : 901923 Port of Embarkation : Liverpool Purpose for Travel : Staying in USA, but not a citizen of USA Mode of Travel : Steerage I couldn't find any couple, named either Michael/Mary or James/Mary arriving in the US with any children :-( The same goes for the marriage - no sign of it in the records I have. There were Dineens in Donegal though - only three households in the 1857 Griffiths : Dinneen, Bridget - Strasallagh Dinneen, John- Meenasrone South Dinneen, Patrick- Meenasrone South They were all in the one parish though - Inishkeel. The only household headed by a Michael O'Donnell in the parish, for 1857, was in Mulnamin Beg, which isn't too far from Strasallagh. I can't think of anything to advise you of at the moment, except to try obtaining Michaels death cert or obituary - there may have been something in that - or even on his headstone.......that's if he died in the US anyway. Well, its not much but I hope it helps a bit anyway. All the best, Lindel James died on his way home from work at the age of 51. He is buried in Holy Cross Cemetary in Brooklyn, New York. 1930 census, Brooklyn, Kings County, ED # 1145, page 7A, NY: James J. O'Donnell, age 49, engineer for plumbing company Lottie, wife, age 43 (Charlotte Kerner Creen) Roy O'Donnell, son, age 15, apprentice plumber (Leroy, mother Mary Harrigan) Lottie O'Donnell, daughter, age 3 yrs 2 months (Charlotte) Jessie Creen, stepdaughter, age 18, occupation - telephone operator (father is Ruffus Creen) I have not found any information on Mary Harrigan married to James J. O'Donnell. Even her death certificate has no parents listed at all- This is a great frustration. Mary Harrigan O'Donnell died on Jan 28, 1914 (five days after Leroy was born) at 4:00 p.m. at 216 Hoyt Street, a tenement in Brooklyn, Death Certificate number 2674. An autopsy was performed and the cause of death was asphyxia due to gas poisoning. Details of medical examiner's report not included. No personal information was provided or known to the county medical examiner. She was buried in a pauper's grave at the County Farm on Feb 5, 1914 by the Dept. of Public Charities. She left four young sons, one being my grandfather Lester Aloyisiuss O'Donnell. Her sons were Edwin, James, Lester and Leroy.
