Happy New Year to O'Donnell list members, An arduous man has been transcribing the 1870 San Francisco census for sometime now. I found in the fourth ward, the "other" James O'Donnell as I call him. He was also a police officer as was my great great grandfather, James O'Donnell, but he was several years older. I have always wondered if the two were somehow related as my own family lived very nearby (a few blocks). I note that the oldest son, also James, was born in Australia it seems and then they apparently came to the USA from there I suppose sometime in 1857, as the second son Edward was born in California in 1858. If anyone has any idea as to who this group of person(s) is/was please let me know. I do remember someone was looking for a MATILDA O'DONNELL that wrote to me sometime ago.
