There were O'Donnells all over the Rosses, and the name Manus crops up from time to time, being a name used by the O'Donnells since the Middle Ages. Burtonport is about 5 miles from Cruit with many other small tonwlands nearby, plust here were a lot of islands off the coast there that might have used it as an address, in the same way my Owey islanders used Kincasslagh. The surname Coll is Mac Cumhail, and is sometimes also anglicised McColl, McCole or McCool. 'Alice' would have been Eilis in Gaelic. However, I do suspect my great-grandfather Neil had other brothers and sisters than the ones I know about. He married late, and mum only knows of two brothers who had land adjacent to his own. Even with these, I think they had more children than the ones I know about. Folks who went to America could be forgotten at home after a couple of generations. Do you want to email me with more details, including dates, and I'll see what I can find on Griffiths or the tithe survey for you? Marie
