I had some correspondence once with someone else with Fanad McConigley ancestry, and I did a little bit of looking into them at that time. Basically, the story amongst the Owey McGonagles is that they are descended from a tailor from the Fanad peninsula who arrived in the area by boat in about 1800, married a woman from Tory Island and settled on Owey. They had at least three daughters and a number of sons, of whom the Andrew on Griffiths was one (he lived to be 96). I am descended from another son, Seamie (James on records, of course). Nobody seems to remember what the Tailor's name was, but each of the sons should have named their eldest son for him, and Seamie's eldest son was Neil (my gt-grandfather); there was at least one other Neil of a similar age amongst the Owey McGonagles. I don't know where in Fanad the tailor chap came from, except that he was also a boatman so it must havesomewhere by the coast. My sort of guess at the moment is perhaps somewhere near Glinsk. I have details of all the Fanad McConiglys from the 1901 census, and also the McConigly deaths for the relevant registration district (Milford) up to 1900, & can email them to you if you would like. So it does look as if the Rosses/ Gweedore areas of Dobegal would be your best starting point, but you really need to try to find evidence from US sources of exactly where your O'Donnells & McGees came from ass records in Donegal are v. poor - perhaps naturalisation papers, death certs, obituaries or whatever. My Mom was Tutsy Kerwin Poling and she was closest to Mary Ellen O'Donnell Hagan. I remember attending several O"Donnell funerals; one in particular was Peter Hanley (D. 1959).........married to Annie?. Also remember story that Lizzie played the piano. At one time she worked in a store and would play a song for people from sheet music they were thinking of buying. How are you related? Please respond, I ammvery excited to hear more of what you know. I was told Mary O'Donnell came on the same ship as Catherine in 1883. They traveled at least 2 x to Ireland together...........they were very close. Searching for a relatives WW1 Medals. Details are as follows: 445 Private George O'Donnell of the 5th Light Horse of the Australian Infantry Forces was awarded the 1914 -15 Star, British War Medal 1914 -1920 and Victory Medal. Should anybody know the whereabouts of these medals or have any information on how I might carry out a search for these medals I would be pleased to hear from them. Would have been born around the 1850s in Co Mayo Ireland. Understood to have given birth to a boy possibly in New York in the late 1800s or early 1900s. She would have been registered as a single mother and probably under the name O'Donnell (possible Murphy). She would have given birth within 7 or 8 months of her arrival in the USA.
