I have an Alice O'Donnell from Burtonsport who married Frank Coll ("Call"). I have a Manus O'Donnell and Grace O'Donnell (don't know their relationship, e.g., brother/sister, husband/wife?) who were the godparents to my four McFadden children in Bethlehem, PA. Generally godparents were related to the family somehow because they had the responsibility of raising the children if something happened to the parents. I also think I have some Sharkeys in my line, through marriage. Does any of this tie to your family? Make sense? Thanks in advance.

Something went wrong there. As I was saying, jyst had a look at Griffith's Valuation, 1857, for parish of Tullaghbegley (which covers Gweedore). If you don't know it, Gweedore, as well as being a village, is the name of the whole NW corner of Donegal north of the Gweedore river & west of Gortahork. It includes Bunbeg. No Philip O'Donnell householder in Tullaghbegley even then. Two James McGees in the parish: one in Killult, which I don't know and can't find on my map, the other in Knockfola - this is the little townland near the headland at the extreme NW corner of the county known as the Bloody Foreland (Bloody Foreland just being a translation of Cnoc Fola). Hope this is of some help. Duffy is also a common surname in the area. The clan homeland was around Annagry, where there are still a lot of Duffys (my mum's auntie Rosie was married to one of the Annagry Duffys). Marie

My ancestors came to Australia and not the USA but I wonder if it is possible that there is a connection. In 1859 my gt gt grandfather Francis O'Donnell and his wife Catherine McGee and their first 3 children came to Australia on a Donegal Relief ship and they came from Gweedore north of Bunbeg I believe. Francis' parents were Philip O'Donnell and Bridget Duffy who were both deceased by 1859. Catherine's parents were James & Mary (Doughan) McGee who were alive and living in Gweedore in 1859. (According to the shipping list). Any connection?
