Our new domain ODonnell-World.com is now live and well. Please update any bookmarks that you may have had to now point to the domain URL of "http://www.odonnell-world.com/" There has been a massive effort to update all of the files prior to migration to the domain site. I am aware of some bad links pointing to external sites that are no longer active and I will be either replacing them with accurate URLs or deleting the entries altogether. That is time consuming due to the need to search out new addresses or alternative materials but I will be focusing my attentions to that in the next few days. Other than that, all other site activities should be accurate but this was a major migration of nearly 2,500 html files containing nearly 63,000 internal links and over 6,600 external links. Beyond the external links requiring update, the other items should be operating properly - but - if you happen across something that isn't working, please advise. Please note that my current personal e-mail address of dickod@mindspring.com will soon become invalid and will be replaced by rjo@odonnell-world.com. E-mail to webmaster@odonnell-world.com will also reach me. Lastly - two points re submitted family tree materials ... 1. We can accommodate many more submissions as we have an enormous amount of web space now available to us. Please consider submitting your materials or suggestions for other pages that I might develop. 2. If you are a past submitter whose e-mail address changed since the time of submission, please advise me so that I might update your e-mail links. otherwise potential family members will not be able to reply to your tree data. Dick O'Donnell Melbourne, Florida, USA webmaster@odonnell-world.com
The BAD news is that the O'Donnell World web site overgrew it's allocated space and is inaccessible for the next day or two. The GOOD news is that we will soon have our own domain "www.odonnell-world.com" and lots more space to grow in. Bear with us ...life will soon be better (at least on the web site). Tricia wrote > I would like to unsubscribe OK, I should have included instructions in my earlier note. To unsubscribe from any list or digest just send an e-mail to the appropriate address (see list below) and put the word "unsubscribe" (without the quotation marks) in the subject and the body of the e-mail. Do not include any other text in the body such as your signature block. erase everything but "unsubscribe" (without the quotation marks) . LIST AND DIGEST ADDRESSES: Donegal List <IRL-CO-DONEGAL-L-request@rootsweb.com> Donegal Digest <IRL-CO-DONEGAL-D-request@rootsweb.com> Fantom List <FANTOM-L-request@rootsweb.com> Fantom Digest <FANTOM-D-request@rootsweb.com> ODonnell List <ODONNELL-L-request@rootsweb.com> ODonnell Digest <ODONNELL-D-request@rootsweb.com> As you can see, the subscription handling address is similar to the address you use to send mail to the list but has the added "-request" to it, i.e., send mail to the ODonnell List at ODONNELL-L@rootsweb.com versus send subscription requests to the ODonnell List at ODONNELL-L-request@rootsweb.com Also, the addresses for List versus Digest are quite predictable and differ only by the "D" versus "L" designators. You can use the construct to unsubscribe from any other RootsWeb lists that you may belong to. To resubscribe, use the same address but rather than saying "unsubscribe", place "subscribe" (without the quotation marks) in the subject and body of the e-mail. You will receive an e-mail notifying you that you have been unsubscribed. Leave it in your in-basket to remind yourself to resubscribe when you return. To all members of these Lists and/or Digests The summer holiday season seems to be in full swing and many members have skipped town for the seashore or mountains without having temporarily unsubscribed their memberships. As a consequence, their mailboxes are filling up and after they have exceeded capacity the List Owner (That's Me!) gets a notice FOR EACH AND EVERY delivery failure for EACH AND EVERY member that has overflowed their storage limits. . With huge amounts of Failed Delivery Notices arriving daily from six List and Digest groups, I have no recourse but to act in self defense and unsubscribe those individuals myself just to keep the volume down. Of course I cannot notify them that I did so because their mailbox is full! Hopefully one day they will begin wondering why all the mail has stopped and reinstate themselves. So, please, do yourself the service of unsubscribing from any lists that you belong to. I belong to 16 different list groups myself and in preparing for a recent vacation unsubscribed from all of them. Each unsub action sent me a notice that it had occurred and I left them in my inbox until I returned. I then opened each one up, hit REPLY and sent a subscribe request to easily reinstate myself.. Thanks - and have a great holiday! Dick O'Donnell Melbourne, Florida, USA Listowner - O'DONNELL, FANTOM, DONEGAL

There were O'Donnells all over the Rosses, and the name Manus crops up from time to time, being a name used by the O'Donnells since the Middle Ages. Burtonport is about 5 miles from Cruit with many other small tonwlands nearby, plust here were a lot of islands off the coast there that might have used it as an address, in the same way my Owey islanders used Kincasslagh. The surname Coll is Mac Cumhail, and is sometimes also anglicised McColl, McCole or McCool. 'Alice' would have been Eilis in Gaelic. However, I do suspect my great-grandfather Neil had other brothers and sisters than the ones I know about. He married late, and mum only knows of two brothers who had land adjacent to his own. Even with these, I think they had more children than the ones I know about. Folks who went to America could be forgotten at home after a couple of generations. Do you want to email me with more details, including dates, and I'll see what I can find on Griffiths or the tithe survey for you? Marie

There were certainly Sharkeys in Annagry. I think you would be lucky to trace Una as there are no proper records for the area going back beyond 1864. However, I could email you a map if you like. Also, there is a Donegal genealogy website (can't remember name) which gives index to 1828 tithe survey for Templecrone, so that wuold tell you how many Sharkey families in Annagry/ Drumnacart etc. Marie
Dick, I applaud your decision to migrate away from Geocities - the advertising is indeed atrocious! I honestly don't know why other people don't do the same. Thanks for making the site more 'friendly'.
