This uprising had to do with high taxation, essentially denial of the right to vote ( e.g. in the town of Kilmarnock with 13,000 inhabitants only one had the right to vote). Disatisfaction had been brewing for several years. Pampleteers calling for reform were prosecuted without trial. The uprising primarily was limited to demonstrations. The government sent in troops. Unfortunately , Tranter doesbn't mention it in his book. My only source is a history of Kilmarnock written in the mid'1800's. submitted by John Laughland
