    3. A member of this list, Brian Connors, was kind enough to fax me some pages of Irish passengers from a book called, Handbook on Irish Genealogy. I have gone through them and picked out the Connor/O'Connor mentions. Here is what I found. I have no other info than this, so please don't ask me any questions on this data. A good tutorial on determining ships into NYC can be found: http://www.rootsweb.com/~irlwa I recommend you print it out for future use. Okay, here is the data. Since the print is extremely hard to read, I have put ??? when I can't make out what it says. Biddy O'Connor, 14 from Co. 3. I have O'CONNORs to add to the mix. Daniel and Eleanor O'CONNOR were sponsors at the baptism of my gggrandmother, Honora DUGGAN, 24 August 1817, Parish Tipperary. Honora's parents were Catherine O'DWYER and Patrick DUGGAN. Whether Daniel and Eleanor were man-wife or brother-sister I do not know, nor do I know if or how there is a familial relationship to the DUGGANs. Hopefully, they'll be found in someone's tree and we'll make the connection. Happy hunting. LizD.

    3. The following site, Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness Movement, is just getting off the ground. It's premise is that most of us are located away from the area we are researching and others are living in areas we want to research. So, therefore, why don't we help each other out. I live in the Northwest corner of CA and have offered to go cemetery hunting here and transcribe cemetery inscriptions for those in other parts of the county/world who need the info from here. Anyhow, check out the site and see if you can help. Who knows what good karma will come back at you! O'Byrne] ....[1821 to 1910 ] Bridget was the daughter of Thomas and Catherine [Condon] O'Byrne. Bridget had 7 siblings, James, Thos., Terrance, Patrick,Margaret, Ellen, Kathryn and John [ Upon recount....make that 8] I recently discovered an elderly aunt in the area and she is putting together more info. for me . Other names she mentioned on the phone were Quigley, McIntosh, Joyce, Ford. I'll attempt to put it all together after I have a visit with her. There was some mention of time spent in Penn. More Later, Brian Connors, Wisconsin

    2. Carole Bazzell
    3. I'm new to the O'Connor list and I'm not even sure if this is the place to look for my family. Frank O Connor moved from Ireland to Montreal in the 1840's with several children. We do not know about Mrs. O'C. A daughter married to Mr. Redmond remained in Ireland. Francis died in Lindsay, Ontario, date unknown. Some of the children remained in Ontario and married Murray, Corrigan and Byrnes and some moved to US, one to Kansas but we don't know her name. I have very little information and would love to hear from someone who has some ideas. Carole Bazzell e-mail rbazzell@oeonline.com

    3. Hi all, I am happy to announce that our list is almost at 50 members and we have only been going for a little over a week! It is hard for me to believe there are so many of us researching O'Connor/Connors/Conner ancestors in County Tipperary. Since some of us posted our family lines and we have so many new members, I suggest the new ones check out the archive url at the bottom of this post. In the meantime, I will post mine again and hopefully wake everyone up! My Timothy O'Connor/O'Connors/Connors (used all at one time or another) was b 1810 in County Tipperary, unknown area. He married Catherine (unknown maiden name but may have been a Ryan) who was b 1816. They had a number of children including but not all known: Michael, William, Timothy, James, Mary, Margaret, Winifred and possibly Edward (Redmund, Edmund), and Jeremiah. All emigrated to Troy NY. Some earlier than others but all by 1870's. In my quest to find out more about the above family, I made a trip to Troy last summer and have accumulated some info on O'Connor/Connor/Connors, ie city directories, grave inscriptions, St. Joseph Church baptisms and census data. If anyone has an O'Connor etc. who ended up in Troy, write me personally and I can send you what I have. slan go foill (bye for now), Pat

    1. [OCONNOR-TIPP-L] A post from Jane O'Brien
    2. Pat Connors
    3. Jane has posted another great informational piece on the Tipperary list which I am sharing with this list. Her email address is: jayohbee@iol.ie I have an 1836 Catholic Directory in which there is a section which lists the names of Parish Priests, Curates, Parish Names and nearest postal town for each Diocese as well as more. The following is a table of names from an excel file. My columns are headed Parish priest, Christian name; Curate surname, Name; Parish; post town. The Archdiocese had 47 parishes at that time. I have stayed with spellings as listed in the directory, some of the parish names are abbreviated...some may even have been changed. Dr. Michael Slattery was the Archbishop then. Some of the names listed may be of interest. I imagine that in those parishes where the PP and the curate had the same surname they were related in some way..perhaps not for the Ryans. This is the case for definite in other documents I have read re religious located in other parts of the country for whom I have seen information. In some instances there was more than one curate, for thos cases I have listed the PP twice or more and the different curates name beside each entry. In other cases there was only a PP and no Curate. Even looking at this will give some idea of the size of a parish. Hopefully this will be easy enough for everyone to read. 1. [OCONNOR-TIPP-L] O'CONNORS of Doon
    2. Doon is a parish which straddles the Tipperary-Limerick Border. Our O'Connor family members who are still there live in the village of Doon and at the farm at Muine Doon. Many O'Connor family members emigrated to Minnesota: Patrick who settled in Goodhue County and married Margaret Rowles, Timothy who settled in St. Paul and married Winifred Nee, and Nell who married James O'Dowd and also settled in St. Paul. (Nell and James O'Dowd were the parents of Mike O'Dowd, the St. Paul Cyclone, World Middleweight Champion 1915-1918.) Mary married a Gillespie and probably settled in St. Paul also. Edward O'Connor married Ellen Franklin (of another Doon family) and lived in Minneapolis. Johanna apparently did not marry and also lived in Minneapolis. Patrick's name was usually written as Conners. Many Irish people dropped the "O'" from their names in order to lessen the prejudice and discrimination against them in England and later in the United States. This helps to explain how Patrick was known as Connors, but later the O' was restored, and for a period the name was O'Connors. 1. [OCONNOR-TIPP-L] O'CONNORS IN TIPPERARY
    2. Bill and Cathy McGrath
    3. Here is a little more information on my Tipperary O'Connor's MY ggg grandparents were: William O'Connor Catherine Gleason Two children that I know of were: Timothy O'Connor - (my gg grandfather) Born: Around 1836-1838 - Nenagh, Tipperary Left Liverpool Arrived USA 1857 - Came to Troy, NY Michael O'Connor Born: Around 1845 - Newport, Tipperary Left Queenstown Arrived New York 1879 - Came to Troy, NY There also seems to be some connection with the O'Rourke family in Newport either through the O'Connor's or the Gleason's. Some of the O'Connor relatives in Troy used to write to O'Rourke's on Pound Street in Newport up until the 1970's. There was a Michael O'Rourke and his niece Catherine. Outside of Timothy having a brother Michael, the name Michael doesn't seem to be repeated in the descendents of Tim. William, Timothy, Joseph and Francis were the names of children of Timothy and William, one of his son's . Another son of Tim's was Patrick (his second son) who was named after his wife's father. Since there was no Michael, I am leaning towards the O'Rourke's being related to Catherine Gleason. Which may also explain where the Michael name came from for Tim's brother. It seems that nearly all the men in my family tree, myself included, marry a woman named Catherine. I must have 40 "Catherine's" and that's only going back to the mid l800's. Would love to find more out on my O'Connor's and Gleason's and to determine where the O'Rourke's fit in. Thanks to Pat for setting up the O'Connor-Tipperary list. Pat and I are searching O'Connor's in Troy, NY (where I was born and lived for many years) but we haven't found a common link yet. Regards, Bill McGrath Clifton Park, NY (Also researching McGRATH-HAYES-KENNEDY from Thurles, Tipperary.
