Hi all, Stopped by Barnes and Noble the other night sans kidlets and had to the time search the store. I found and purchased a booke entitled "Ellis Island Interviews, In Their Own Words" by Peter Morton Coan. Mr. Coan apparently worked at Ellis Island for quite some time and took the time to interview people later in life who had taken their first Americanized steps through Ellis Island. There are approximately 10 pictures included. The book is broken down into sections with stories by NAMED individuals under each section. In most cases, the NAMED individuals list the boat they came over on, the date, their birthdate and of course their story in their own words. Ellis Island Employyes (doctors/dentists and such) Italy (Southern and Northern) The British Isles (England/Ireland/Scotland/Wales) Northern Europe (Poland/Germany/Austria) Eastern Europe (Russia/Lithuania & the Ukraine/Greece/Czechoslovakia/Hungary/Romania) Scandinavia (Sweden/Denmark/Norway/Finland) Western Europe (France/Spain/Portugal/The Netherlands) The Middle East (Syria/Armenia/Turkey/Palestine) Appendices (Immigration records 1892-1954/Famous Immigrants/Aliens) It is a wonderful book with some wonderful stories! I know that Ancestry.com had it in their bookstore for a while. The price was approximately 14.00 with the sale. Personally, I think it is a must, it gives great history of each region when you read the stories! Desiree
