In 1922 the Free State Forces shelled the Four Courts in Dublin. Winston Churchill who was in the English Parliament at the time made a speach on the 26th demanding that Republican troops should be dislodged from the Four Courts. The Republican troops lost to the English, the Four Courts were nearly ruined and Cathal Brugha refused to surrender and died in the battle.
