2. Humorous Correspondence to the LDS Family History Library (For those who don't know the LDS Church is one of the leading organizations in genealogical research. They get letters and phone calls from all over asking for their help.) These questions are from actual correspondence received by the LDS Family History Library: Our 2nd great-grandfather was found dead crossing the plains in the library. He was married 3 times in the endowment house and has 21 children. For running down Wheelers, I will send $3 more. He and his daughter are listed as not being born. I would like to find out if I have any living relatives or dead relatives or ancestors in my family. Will you send me a list of all the Dripps in your library? My grandfather died at age 3. We are sending you 5 children in a separate envelope. Documentation: Family Bible in possession of Aunt Merle until tornado hit Topeka, Kansas, now only the Good Lord knows where it is.... The wife of #22 could not be found; I have worked on her for 30 years without success; now see what you can do. I have a hard time finding myself in London; if I was there I was very small and cannot be found. This family had 7 nephews that I am unable to find; if you know who they are, please add them to the list. We lost our grandmother. Will you please send us a copy? Will you please send me the name of my first wife. I have forgotten her name. A 14 year old boy wrote: "I do not want you to do research for me. Will you please send me all the material on the Welch line in the U.S., England and Scotland countries? I will do the research." Further research will be necessary to eliminate one of my parents.

2. This is a hoax and an old one renewed. Computer Virus Myths home page There is also a rumor going around that the Post Office had to shut down or their main computers crashed. This is TRUE, it was cause by a virus hoax sent to a few computers and everyone that recieved it hit the send to all button and overloaded the computers and it crashed. It took a couple of hours to get them back up and running. The virus did NOT shut them down, the panic of a hoax and lack of information did. 1. re:O'Connor French connection
2. Rev. Martin J. Murphy III
3. Speaking of "The Irish Brigades", it was during the American Revolutionary War that the French came to our aid against the British. A large French force under French Count de Rochambeau came here to Newport, RI for this purpose. It contained a unit called "The Irish Brigade" and their brigade flag stands proudly along with the others in our Old Colony House, the second oldest capital building in the US. The French forces were brought to America and Newport by one Adm. de Terney who ended up becoming sick after being here for a few years and passed away. He is buried here. The name de Terney could derive from the Irish who fled Ireland to France and the name de Terney could be from the Irish "Tierney". 3. Cate, The O'CONNOR French connection would seemingly be related to the "Flight of the Earls" but this would be much earlier than the mid-1800's. However you should check and see if you could find litreature on this aspect of Irish history. I know that there is a book entitled "The Irish Brigades : Memoirs of the Most Emiinent Irish Military Commanders" by Mathew O'Conor. A quick look at the index does not show any O'CONNOR names which I am sure an O'CONNOR author would have been proud to include! :-). So maybe you would have to look at other books. King James' Army Lists possibly? For waht it is worth there is a family of O'CONNOR in South Africa whose grandfather married a French woman in Brittany , I think (Elvina du Pont) and then he went as protector of immigrants to Mauritius and from there 3 of his sons and one of his daughters came to South Africa Regards Mike >Does anyone have information or suggestions re how to check out the >possibility of an O'CONNOR French connection-in the early/mid 1800's? >TIA >Cate Bacon > >~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ >Cate & Frank Bacon >34 Wensley Road >Richmond >Nelson >NEW ZEALAND >email: [email protected] >~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > > Michael O'Connor Orchid Grower and Genealogist Researching the names O'Connor/Connor/Connors Pietermaritzburg South Africa

2. This is my home are, if you find something, I'll try to get copies for you. Ley Territorial Enterprise, 1866-1867 Description: The Territorial Enterprise was published in Virginia City, Nevada and perhaps its greatest claim to fame is the young journalist, Mark Twain, who wrote for the paper early in his career as a writer. The newspaper, however, printed more than just the colorful articles of this American icon. This database is a collection of notices of births, marriages, voter registrations, and deaths from the newspaper in the years 1866 and 1867. With over 10,200 records, this collection includes information regarding the type of event, date of occurrence, issue of newspaper in which it appeared and in the case of marriages, the name of spouse. Covering the territory of Nevada and parts of northern California, it was extracted from microfilm of the original newspaper. Bibliography: Robinson, Doreen. Territorial Enterprise, 1866-1867. 1. Re: OCONNOR-D Digest V98 #215
2. I am trying to obtain information on an Edward O'Connor possibly Connor, Conor, or O'Connor who had married a Catherine Donovan both possibly from County Cork, Ireland. I have no other specific location. They had a son Charles O'Connor who was born possibly in 1819 in County Cork and died in Hastings, Ontario, Canada. It is assumed that Edward was born in the late 1700s probably in County Cork. I would sincerely appreciate any information on either Edward or Catherine. Sincerely J. Patrick O'Connor

It is THE YEAR OF THE FRENCH, by Thomas Flanagan, 1979, Pocket Books, New York, NY, ISBN: 0-671-83301-4. The year it discusses is 1798 "when three tall ships full of French troops sailed into a tiny County Mayor harbor to help a band of desperate, romantic Irish men and women rise up against their English oppressors." At one time this book was a best seller. Pat
