Does anyone know anything of the ancestry of the actor Carroll O'Connor? I looked him up with a search engine and found the pedigree chart for Archie Bunker, but not for him. The reason I ask is that an Irish relative thought he was related to my O'Connors from Abbeyfeale, County Limerick. All I can find is that he is from an Irish Catholic family in Queens, NY. Clare
Hi, I am looking for Annie Connor married to a William Wright. They were both born in Pa. I have their son's death certificate (Charles Wright) which says he was born in what looks like Hooverhurst, Indiana Co. Charles was born around 1890 and died on May 28, 1928. I thought maybe Annie Connor was originaly an Oconnor. Any help would be appreciated. thanks.

The original structure was a Pole building erected c1748 on Woods Creek. This was replaced by a building of hewn timber on Whistle Creek in 1767 and was then called "Hall's Meeting House". In 1789, a stone building was erected and the name changed to Monmouth. I am busy trying to put together a book on the O'CONNOR/CONNORS/CONNOR families in South Africa. Whilst researching in the archives here I came across a couple of O'CONNORs who came to South Africa from the USA. There was a James Francis O'CONNOR born 16th January 1908 in Tarrytown, New York, USA. There was also a Mary O'Connor who was born about 1917 in Bayonne, New Jersey, USA. (This may be incorrect and she may have been born in Annaghmore, Killarney as there was a previous record of a Mary who was also born about 1917 and who was a nun.) I think Mary was a Dominican nun. She gave the name of Desmond O'CONNOR who was already in Soputh Africa There was also a Michael O'Connor who was born in Killarney, Ireland and who came here from the USA. He was about 45 in 1934 and his wife was Annie. They came here from New York and they may have been Mary's parents. Do these names/families ring any bells with anybody? Seasons greetings to all on the list Kind regards Mike Michael O'Connor Orchid Grower and Genealogist Researching the names O'Connor/Connor/Connors Pietermaritzburg South Africa

I purchased the following photograph in an antique shop in Dodgeville, Iowa Co., WI in October 1998. It is a photo of a man and a woman taken at the turn of the century. Inscribed on the back "Mrs. Geo. O'CONNOR, Wonnewoc Wis, R3-Box-Sec19, as it is, man dead, Parents." I would like to send the picture to anyone interested in it. I just ask that you reimburse me for the purchase price and the cost of mailing it to you--$5.00 total.
Fellow list members, for your information here is this year's Christmas Message from the President of Ireland, Mary McAleese. Merry Christmas Ley K. O'Connor List Owner O'Connor (var) Mailing List CHRISTMAS MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT It gives me great pleasure to extend warm greetings in this holy season of Christmas to Irish people everywhere. Christmas has a special significance for those who cannot be with their loved ones at this time of joy and happiness and it is my hope that the spirit of Christmas will draw together all friends and relations who are separated by thought or by distance. Christmas is a time of reflection and renewal - reflection on the events of the year drawing to a close and renewal of our hopes of peace and happiness for all the peoples of this world. We hope that the peace that has been bestowed on this island will be our gift to the next generation and that it will extend to every war torn part of the globe. It is appropriate at this time to reflect on the commitment and generosity of so many Irish people, among them members of our Defence Forces, many clergy and religious and many thousands of others who will be away from home this Christmas in the cause of helping others. Their sacrifice and selflessness is renowned and lauded internationally. They are Ireland's special ambassadors and I am proud to send a special and heartfelt greeting and every good wish to them. They bring Ireland's ethos of caring and sharing to the poor and the hungry across the globe, reminding us in doing so of our common humanity and our shared responsibility for all God's family. May the spirit of this holy season give courage and comfort to those who are sick, alone, suffering or in need. May God reward the great generosity of everyone who shares what they have, not least their friendship, with those less fortunate. Above all, I pray that the spirit of peace and neighbourliness which Christmas inspires in us will serve to deepen our respect for, and understanding of, the needs and aspirations of all the traditions on this island in the cause of securing a lasting peace. May God grant wisdom, courage, strength and determination to all political representatives committed to securing peace on this island, as they meet the challenges ahead. I wish a very happy Christmas and a New Year filled with hope and peace to all our Irish family and all our friends at home and across the world. MARY MCALEESE PRESIDENT OF IRELAND
Taking advantage of this message, I wish all you good people who share so much with each other, a most happy Christmas. You represent what Christmas is all about. I have been following all the messages that Dona so kindly has sent to the list regarding Kerry baptisms from O'Keife etc. I have noticed the same problem that Barry is now querying, that is are the "towns" mentioned by Dona and Barry actual towns or are they just townlands in civil parishes? Like Barry, I cannot find any towns on my map of Ireland which seems to show even small villages which, if you blink whilst driving, you miss them! :-) Barry, I would suggest that you scurry off in haste to your nearest LDS (Mormon Church) Family History Centre and look up the Griffith's Valuations for County Kerry (use the index prepared by the National Library in Dublin which is on microfilm in the LDS FHC) and see if you can identify if any O'CONNOR/CONNORS/CONNOR is recorded in those places you mention. Please report back to the list so that we will all know that these are townlands and not towns/villages. Hope all on the list have a very happy Christmas and all good health in the New Year. Among our many missing O'Connors are Catherine and her brother John. The information we have on them is rudimentary but, perhaps, enough to spark a recognition in someone. Catherine was a nun and took the religious name Mother Theresita. She was the Superior General with the Sister's of the Good Shepherd possibly in Cincinatti Ohio. I understand, but have been unable to verify, that she died in a nursing home in that city in 1968. Her brother John had moved from Toronto to Cincinatti to be with her and was last heard from in 1961. Both are the children of John O'Connor and his wife Mary Ann Hillock. John was born in County Kerry Ireland, likely in the 1860's, but we have neither birth nor death dates for him or for Mary. Any help would be appreciated. I got this update from another list and thought I would post here since this site does have some records relating to the Irish as well as many Connors/O'Connors (list to follow- next email) <A HREF="http://www.ingeneas.com/">inGeneas Canadian Genealogy</A> : : http://www.inGeneas.com : : Below is the article about their records. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You may have wondered how inGeneas decides which records to include in our database. Our primary goal is always to find and transcribe Canadian passenger and immigration records from the 17th, 18th and early 19th centuries. Furthermore, because Canadian passenger manifests were archived beginning with the port of Quebec in 1865 (and these records are available on microfilm at the National Archives of Canada), for the most part we limit the passenger records on our database to those extracted from pre-1865 manifests. Within the parameters detailed in the previous paragraph, there are kinds of records we feel are particularly desirable, such as: records that expand the scope of our database; specific records or types of records in which our patrons have indicated an interest; and, records from our ongoing major project. Below, as examples, I will describe how some of the new records in our database fit into those categories. Records Expanding the Scope of the Database =========================================== It is difficult to find records for pre-Confederation Canada west of Ontario. This is why we are happy to add several lists of settlers and labourers in the service of the Hudson's Bay Company and Lord Selkirk at York Fort and Red River (Manitoba) in 1813. Many of the early settlers in Canada were soldiers who chose to stay here after the regiment in which they served was disbanded. Many others were Loyalists who fled the United States after the American Revolution and settled in Canada. There have been relatively few of either type of record in the database prior to the more than 850 records we are adding in this update. Records in Which Our Patrons Have Expressed an Interest ======================================================= Many of you have told us that records related to Grosse Isle are of interest to you. This month's database updates contains records from several Grosse Isle related documents. * a list, prepared by the Medical Superintendent at Grosse Isle, of those who died while en route to Quebec and a petition to His Excellency the Chief Governor of Upper and Lower Canada signed by many passengers on the same vessel regarding their quarantine there * lists of those who died at the Grosse Isle Hospital in 1833 and 1834 * a list of casualties in "The Sheds" at Grosse Isle in 1834 * a return of the money and effects left by emigrants who died without relatives in 1847 For those of you who are not familiar with Grosse Isle, it was the location of the quarantine station established in 1832 through which all emigrants who travelled to the port of Quebec passed (Quebec was the primary port for immigrants to Canada prior to World War II). For 74,080 immigrants, Grosse Isle became their final resting spot. For additional information about Grosse Ile and the related National Historic Site, visit the website located at http://parcscanada.risq.qc.ca/grosse_ile/. Records from inGeneas's Ongoing Major Project ============================================= It is our intention to include as many records as possible in each database update from our ongoing major project: the transcription of those records from the 1901 Census of Canada that show a year of immigration. This month, we are adding 6,788 records from Ontario County, Ontario plus 2,080 records from the Lambton East (Ontario) Census District and 300 records for Prince Edward County, Ontario. Please let us know if there are any records or types of records that would be helpful in your genealogical research or if you have come across any records that you think would be a valuable addition to our database. I hope that you are able to find something to interest you in the diverse list of new records in this update. And please accept the best wishes of everyone here at inGeneas to you and yours for a wonderful holiday season and a prosperous, fulfilling New Year! Merry Christmas to All!! I got this off another list -- thought some of you might enjoy it!! THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, LEGALLY SPEAKING Whereas, on or about the night prior to Christmas, there did occur at a certain improved piece of real property (hereinafter "the House") a general lack of stirring by all creatures therein, including, but not limited to a mouse. A variety of foot apparel, e.g., stocking, socks, etc., had been affixed by and around the chimney in said House in the hope and/or belief that St. Nick a/k/a/ St. Nicholas a/k/a/ Santa Claus (hereinafter "Claus") would arrive at sometime thereafter. The minor residents, i.e., the children, of the aforementioned House were located in their individual beds and were engaged in nocturnal hallucinations, i.e., dreams, wherein vision of confectionery treats, including, but not limited to, candies, nuts and/or sugar plums, did dance, cavort and otherwise appear in said dreams. Whereupon the party of the first part (sometimes hereinafter referred to as "I"), being the joint-owner in fee simple of the House with the party of the second part (hereinafter "Mamma"), and said Mamma had retired for a sustained period of sleep. (At such time, the parties were clad in various forms of headgear, e.g., kerchief and cap.) Suddenly, and without prior notice or warning, there did occur upon the unimproved real property adjacent and appurtenant to said House, i.e., the lawn, a certain disruption of unknown nature, cause and/or circumstance. The party of the first part did immediately rush to a window in the House to investigate the cause of such disturbance. At that time, the party of the first part did observe, with some degree of wonder and/or disbelief, a miniature sleigh (hereinafter "the Vehicle") being pulled and/or drawn very rapidly through the air by approximately eight (8) reindeer. The driver of the Vehicle appeared to be and in fact was, the previously referenced Claus. Said Claus was providing specific direction, instruction and guidance to the approximately eight (8) reindeer and specifically identified the animal co- conspirators by name: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen (hereinafter "the Deer"). (Upon information and belief, it is further asserted that an additional co-conspirator named "Rudolph" may have been involved.) The party of the first part witnessed Claus, the Vehicle and the Deer intentionally and willfully trespass upon the roofs of several residences located adjacent to and in the vicinity of the House, and noted that the Vehicle was heavily laden with packages, toys and other items of unknown origin or nature. Suddenly, without prior invitation or permission, either express or implied, the Vehicle arrived at the House, and Claus entered said House via the chimney. Said Claus was clad in a red fur suit, which was partially covered with residue from the chimney, and he carried a large sack containing a portion of the aforementioned packages, toys, and other unknown items. He was smoking what appeared to be tobacco in a small pipe in blatant violation of local ordinances and health regulations. Claus did not speak, but immediately began to fill the stocking of the minor children, which hung adjacent to the chimney, with toys and other small gifts. (Said items did not, however, constitute "gifts" to said minor pursuant to the applicable provisions of the US Tax Code.) Upon completion of such task, Claus touched the side of his nose and flew, rose and/or ascended up the chimney of the House to the roof where the Vehicle and Deer waited and/or served as "lookouts." Claus immediately departed for an unknown destination. However, prior to the departure of the Vehicle, Deer and Claus from said House, the party of the first part did hear Claus state and/or exclaim: "Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!" Or words to that effect. Respectfully Submitted, "The Grinch," Esquire
