    1. Roscommon O'Connors
    2. G.& K. Taylor
    3. Seeking information on the O'Connor family said to live on O'Connors Island in the general area of Keadew, Co. Roscommon in the early 1900's.My grandparents were said to have worked for this family. Does anyone know if there is a location called O'Connor's Island or might this be a local designation? Would these O'Connor's be related to the O'Connors who feature so much in Irish History? At the kind suggestion of a couple of members of another list I wrote, to the O'Connor Family Dwelling in Castlerea, Roscommon but did not receive a reply. All info./suggestions/ ideas welcomed and appreciated. Thanks, Kathy Taylor Ont. Canada.

His father's name was Charles Connor -m- Leda Brewer. Anson was married to Sarah C. Shaffer from Sullivan Co. PA, he died in 1935 in Towanda and was buried in the Warburton Hill Cemetery in Sullivan Co. PA. For the past two years there hasn't seemed to be anyone here that I could connect with. Does any of this info sound familiar to you? Bonnie Stallings [email protected]

    1. Speaking of Connors
    2. Joan Hartman
    3. Hi List, Well, I haven't done any work on this line so I doubt that I can be of much help to others but I thought I'd mention that my Mom's cousin, Mae Connors told me many years ago that her father was Edward James Connors born 27 January 1883 place unknown....died January 1967 in Jamaica, NY and he had the following brothers: Tom (wife unknown), John who married Jenny Cavanaugh, William who married Jenny's sister Anna Cavanaugh and Joseph (wife unknown). What is notable about that is that Edward James Connors married Martha Anne Stampf whose sister Louise Stampf married George Cavanaugh....who I believe was the brother of Jenny and Anna! I think! Does anyone out there think they are also related to that jumble of people??? LOL Joanie

    1. "Irish Exodus"
    2. This was in today's edition of Everton's Newsletter-----------Linda 16 February 1999 The Exodus from Ireland At the opening of the nineteenth century the Emerald Isle boasted a population of 5.4 million souls. The well-known Potato Famine in the middle of that century devastated the population, resulting in over a million deaths. But Famine deaths did not account for the fluctuating Irish population, which climbed over 8 million in 1841, but was at 4.5 million at the end of the century. If the Blight didn't kill the Irish, what happened to them? Apparently, as many as eight million Irish left their island nation during the nineteenth century, many going to North America, forging a bond spanning the Atlantic that remains strong even at the end of the twentieth century. This "Irish Exodus" is the theme of this new website sponsored by the Belfast Telegraph and the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland. Although it contains few "details" of personal emigration, it does provide an excellent background resource on the causes of Irish emigration to the New World in the nineteenthc century, and can supply even the seasoned researcher with new clues to help in the search for the trail of an Irish ancestor. A number of letters, advertisements, photographs, and contemporary engravings increase the value of this offering, and the serious student of Irish emigration will do well to follow the supplied links to the website for the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland, where more information can be located. 1. New Disease Discovered!! (joke)
    2. ********** DOCTORS FIND NEW DISEASE! ******** Doctors have discovered a new disease that is very contagious to adults. They have named it Genealogy Pox. Symptoms and Treatment are described. SYMPTOMS: Patient continually complains of a need for names, dates, and places. Patient has a blank expression on his face, and often seems deaf to mate and children. Has no taste for work of any kind, except for feverishly looking through records, libraries, and courthouse. Has Compulsion to write letters and spends hours sitting at a computer. Swears at mailman when he doesn't leave mail or threatens to kick computer if there is no e-mail. Frequents strange places such as cemeteries, ruins and remote desolate country areas. Makes secret night calls and hides the phone bills from mate. Patient mumbles to self and has a strange faraway look in his eyes. Has a strange compulsion to gather and scatter old papers all over the house, leaving piles of paper everywhere with strange numbers and names all over them. TREATMENT: No known cure. Medication is useless. Disease is not fatal, but gets progressively worse. Disease is spreading throughout the country very fast, quickly becoming an epidemic. Patient should attend genealogy meetings, workshops, subscribe to genealogical magazines, and be given lots more forms and a computer situated in a quiet corner of the house where he or she can be alone. If family supports patient through this, patient will occasionally come out of strange trance and will act normal again unless you drive by a cemetery or courthouse. REMARKS: The unusual nature of this disease is such that the more sick the patient becomes, the more he or she seems to enjoy it sometimes dancing with glee and yelling, "I found it!"

    1. William H. O'Connor
    2. A few messages back someone posted a notice for the above name--said he and his wife might have been dairy farmers outside of Boston. I'm trying to find my mother's uncle, William H. O'Connor, born 1876 in Weymouth, Mass. Shows up in Boston in 1925 in probate records when his father died. His father was Bryan, mother Ann Thompson O'Connor. Sisters Ann and Nellie, brothers, John T., Charles, and Frank. I don't have any other information about him except possible a photo. If you know your William's parent name, or his birth info, let me know. I didn't keep your message, but meant to.
