The Famine Immigrants, Ira Glazier editor, provides the names of the Ships, dates of arrival to the Port of New York 1846-1851 along with passenger name, age and occupation. IMPORTANT Reminder: be flexible in your spelling. My O'Connor family was spelled CONNER. I missed them early on in my checking. I can't believe I found them...so do not give up. Toni in Florida
Hi all: Have found a new bit of information and am posting in case it applies to anyone on this list. I have a Jerome D. O.Connor b NYC m. Claire Caughlan in 1942. He is definitely mine so if this rings a bell with anyone would appreciate hearing from you. Best wishes, Donna
Where did most of the O'Connor famine immigrants originate, especially in the early part of the potato famine exodus from Ireland. My gggrandfather Thomas arrived in Milwaukee in 1847 and his naturalization papers show that as his port of entry. Canada did not keep track of immigrants coming up the St Lawrence River so there is no record of his entry. Because of the above I must try some top down genealogy by trying to start from where came from. Any in put will be most welcome. Keith Porter Reno
Hi, Have enjoyed being part of this list. Finally am sending some info out and looking for some connections (I hope!). My info is sketchy but I will share what I have: PETER O'CONNOR came to the US late 1860's early 1870's (no other info) from Ireland, possibly County Clair or some other NE county. He settled in Jersey City, NJ. No birth or death dates. He is supposedly buried in the Holy Name Cemetery in Jersey City, NJ. I have not been able to verify that (I actually don't really know how to go about it?). His Wife: MARGARET LEONARD born in Ireland is also maybe buried in the Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City, NJ They had at least one son: JOSEPH PATRICK O'CONNOR b. March 10, 1875 (possibly NJ) married 1908 d. Apr 5, 1929 possibly buried in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Arlington,NJ His Wife: MARY FOWLER b. Jul 7, 1879 Ireland (Dublin?) d. Aug 31, 1947 Brattleboro, VT possibly buried in Holy Cross Cemetery, Arlington,NJ I am hoping to connect with some living relatives, who might know more. Would love to know about these people and if there is any family in Ireland anymore. I know that there were people in Ireland from this family as recently as 25 years ago. I only recently got this info and it was from a distant family member who found a piece of paper with this info on it. If anyone could give me any info on where to look or if this info looks familiar, please e-mail me. Thank you! Happy searching! Becci [email protected]
I have just received all the baptismal info for the children of Peter and his wife, Bridget Shanahan from Lissowen, Doon parish, Limerick/Tipperary. The dates go from 1830 to 1848 for the following children: Ellen, Catherine, William, Julia, Nora, Bridget, Mary, Judith and James. If you think this may be part of your family, I will be glad to share the info. This is the results of a search through the Tipperary Heritage Unit. By the way, I gave them my credit card info on Wednesday and received the search on Thursday. All done by email. Not too bad, except I don't believe it is my family! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Pat (Patraigin) Connors, California Siochain Leat (peace be with you) Researching: Connors/O'Connor, McEntee, Campbell, Flynn/O'Flynn, Smith, Phillips, Carter, Boyle, O'Rourke, Healey, Cullinan, Hoare, Todd, Owen, Booth, Gallagher, Fahey http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/c/o/n/Pat-Connors/ mailto:[email protected] Volunteer of Random Genealogical Kindness at http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnraogk/index.htm ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Decided it was time for another posting of my Conner family with the updates I have on them so far. Just in case there are new listmembers who can make a match... From: Bill and Cathy McGrath <[email protected]> Like Pat, my O'Connor's also wound up in Troy, NY. My great grandfather, TIMOTHY O'CONNOR, came to Troy in the 1860's from Nenagh, Tipperary. His brother Michael, came to Troy a few years later. Details that I know are: Tim's parents were: WILLIAM O'CONNOR CATHERINE GLEASON Information on Timothy: Born: Dec. 1836 (Family always talked about Nenagh so may have been born there) Married in Troy, NY on November 28 1872 to CATHERINE McCORMICK from Dunbin, County Louth. Died in Troy, NY on August 8, 1912 Information on Michael: Born: 1845 Newport, Tipperary. Information on O'Rourke name: The O'Connor family in Troy had some relation to the O'Rourke's on Pound Street, Newport. There was a Michael and a niece Catherine. Letters were received up to the 1960's. Nothing else is known about the O'Rourke's. Would like to make some further connections with the the O'Connor, Gleason and O'Rourke names in Tipperary. Regards, Billl McGrath
Like Pat and Bill, my O'Connor's lived in Troy,NY....died there too, though some are buried in Troy, some in nearby Hoosick, NY. I have more questions than information really at this point, but what I DO have: Siblings: Michael, Katherine and Mary O'Connor. Michael was my ggrandfather. I know not when where or to whom they were born--though I do have a notation of my grandmother, Michael's daughter Helen O'Connor, that states Michael was born on "Orchard Street" in Troy. Family info has Michael born ca 1860, but cemetery inof(St.Mary's, Hoosick) has an 1853 birth. Michael died quite suddenly in Troy, apparently of pneumonia, in 1883, within a year or so of his marriage and within six months of the birth of his daughter, my grandmother, Helen (of Troy!!)O'Connor. Michael married Katherine NEALON(alterenate spellings of this name will drive me to drink!!!!: Nelon, Neilen, Kneelan, Kneeland are found on definitely matching documentation) ca 1881---I may have a marriage record match for this. My grandmother Helen O'Connor MAY be Bridget Helen O'Connor baptized in Troy with Neilen godparents --again an apparent match I need to verify. Michael's widow lived in Hoosick and Troy til her death in 1950. Katherine O'Connor and Mary O'Connor were the sisters of my ggrandfather. Again, I know not when or where they were born, BUT do know when they died/were buried, and they were helpful in marrying the same man--simplifies things just a bit. Mary O'Connor married Joseph J. LeCompte ca 1900. Joseph is said to have been from the Bennington, VT area. In 1905, Mary gave birth to Katherine LeCompte--and died. Joseph LeCompte then married Katherine O'Connor and together they raised Katherine LaCompte. Katherine O'Connor LeCompte died in 1926 and Joseph LeCompte died in 1940. The O'Connor sisters and Mr. LeCompte are buried in St. Peters--if memory serves me--in Renn. County. Katherine LeCompte, who died in 1998, married Walter Moloney who died in late February or early March 1999, in Troy, NY. That's what I know. Oh..Helen O'Connor, my grandmother, grew up in Troy, went to nursing school in western MA, married Charles F. Frank ca 1912 and, in Troy, raised six children including my still with us 82+ year old mother. I sure would like to know who Michael, Katherine and May O'Connors parents were! Then perhaps I can make some location connections in Ireland. Thanks, Pat Griffiths [email protected]
Sarah Elizabeth O'CONNER (take your pick of the spelling), born March 1856 in Pennsylvania. Married James Henry ANDERSON about 1875 and they lived in Butler County. Children: Mary, Sarah Louise, Daniel H., William, Ida Bell, Elmer H., Della M., John, James Leland, Leon James, (?)Mame, and (?)Nancy. Seeking information on parents. Have information on several of the children which I would be happy to share. Please respond privately. Thank you for any help you may be able to give. I have a large family of O'Connor/Connors who came over from Doon parish between 1837 and 1870. They all settled in Troy NY (across the Hudson River from Albany). Doon parish is located in both county Limerick and county Tipperary but records are in Limerick which led to some confusion for me, since my records have them from Tipperary. The Griffiths Valuation have them from Cullenagh which I haven't found on any maps or when searching on line for townlands. I would guess it is probably in Tipperary. I have records that show that my grandfather's father was James O'Connor b ca 1849. I believe his father was Timothy O'Connor married to Catherine (good possibility of being a Ryan). Timothy was born 1810 and came to Troy in 1864 with James, Catherine and a daughter, Mary. Timothy's death certificate shows his parents as Bryan O'Connor and Ann Gallagher. Some of Timothy's brothers/cousins who also settled in Troy are: Redmund, William, Patrick, William, Edward and Winifred (sister/cousin). They were all from Doon and migrated from 1837 to 1870. I have currently orderd both the marriage cert for Timothy and Catherine and the baptismal for James from the Doon parish to validify my research. Looking for connections. -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Pat (Patraigin) Connors, California Siochain Leat (peace be with you) Researching: Connors/O'Connor, McEntee, Campbell, Flynn/O'Flynn, Smith, Phillips, Carter, Boyle, O'Rourke, Healey, Cullinan, Hoare, Todd, Owen, Booth, Gallagher, Fahey http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/c/o/n/Pat-Connors/ mailto:[email protected] Volunteer of Random Genealogical Kindness at http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnraogk/index.htm ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Is there anyone on this list that is a descendent of the O'CONNORs from Macclesfield, Chs.? Patrick O'CONNOR b.1831 Mayo Co. IR, m.c.1848 Ann (Honoria) Griffen (b.1831) and they had two sons William b.1849 and Patrick b.1851, before moving to Macclesfield, Chs. Then they had 3 more sons: Bernard b.1855, John b.1859, and Peter b.1863. Both Bernard and Patrick had large families, all born in Macclesfield. John was married too, but I lost him after the 1881 census. Patrick O'CONNOR (d.1915) married Mary Savage, b. 1850 Macclesfield, d.1885 Macclesfield. They had seven daughters: Elizabeth Ann, Anora, Eleanor (my grandmother), Emilia, Caroline, Letitia, and Harriett. After Mary died, Patrick remarried Jane Brassington in 1887, and they had at least four more children: Jane, William, Winifred and John. Bernard (d.1892) m. to Catherine (maiden name unk.-d. 1898) and they had James, John, Annie, Mary, Joseph, Ellen, Peter, and Margaret. I have been able to find this information from the 1891 census, but I guess I will have to wait until the 1901 census is released before I can follow up further. I am sure there are several descendents somewhere, so please, contact me if you recognize any of these people. Audrey O'Regan

I have a mysterious John O'CONNOR buried with my g grandfather in St. John's Cemetery, Middle Village, NY........let me know if you cannot find a death record on this John you found. He would have been b.ca.1866, according to the letter I got from the RC Diocese of Brooklyn. They say he was 60 yrs old and interred 24 Oct, 1926. My g grandfather was buried there in 1922. The plot was in my g grandmother's name for both burials. Ironically, I cannot find my gr grandmother, and she died many years later, in ca.1953. I cannot find any records on her, or my g grandfather Frederick THOUROT ....and have been years searching..... I was hoping this John O'CONNOR would be a clue, or even find the marriage cert on my g grandparents, but no luck yet.....Have spent for 2 NYC marriage searches with no adieu......frustrating sometimes....but know this John must have been related to her in some way, maybe even a second husband?
