I have recieved a complaint of the records being sent to the list. I believe that the cancelation of any records sent to the list are within my jurisdiction. If you don't wish to look at the records, delete them. I say more please. This list is to share information and exchange ideas and research info. I realise this list is probaly unlike any other list you might be on, but, it IS the way I run my list. When you consider just how many O'Connor/Var families there are, it is hard enough, and O'Connor in Ireland is like Jones or Smith here in the States. HOWEVER, in 2 years when you decide/find that part of you family/families lie within this catagory or any other category once sent to the list, you can take comfort that they were sent out and are now in the O'CONNOR archives. Carry on and let's share even more. Still looking for ANY information on James (Essex County, Canada ,abt 1842 )and Hattie Vanguilder (New York) O'Connor, married in 1873 in Tuscola County, Michigan and promptly disappeared. Never located on any Census record. Could be in any state. Thanx for all the help and all of the sharing. I'm one who may connect to the people Donalene is sending info out on. However, I may be one who connects to the info in your research you are not sharing. Donalene, thank you !!! Ley K. O'Connor

Hi, During a visit with Philip and Gertrude O'Connor on Sunday (children of my grandmother's brother) , I discovered the following notes from a reporter who had covered the wedding of Catherine and Charles Fraser for the Toronto papers. The reporter had sent a copy of her notes to the family for them to ensure the correct spelling of the guests names. Philip had saved the original type written notes in his family album. My question is, does anyone have any idea what "henrietta" is? Is it a type of material or a style of dress?: A very pretty and popular wedding took place at St. Helen's Roman Catholic Church, Toronto, on Tuesday morning May 15th, 1900 at 8 a. m., when Mr. Charlie Fraser, 21 Clinton St., was united in wedlock to Katie, second daughter of Jeremiah O'Connor, 105 Wright Avenue, Toronto. The marriage ceremony was performed by the Rev. Father Richardson, curate of St. Helen's. The Rev. Father is a schoolmate of the groom. The bride looked charming in a gown of cream henrietta trimmed with cream satin lace and chiffon and wore the usual veil with a wreath of natural roses and carried a large boquet (sic) of cream roses tied with cream ribbon. The bride was given away by her brother, Mr. John O'Connor. The groom was supported by Mr. Dan O'Connor, brother of the bride. The bridesmaid was Miss Lizzie Hickey, who wore a white leghorn picture hat and carried a beautiful bouquet of red roses. The mass was celebrated specially for the ocasion (sic), after which the bridal party returned to the residence of the bride's father. After congratulations they retired to the dining room and when full justice had been done to the tempting spread the wedding party spent the day in social conversation and games. The guest numbered sixty. Among those present from a distance were: Misses D. and C. O'Leary, Brampton; Mr. and Mrs. Wm, Fraser (parents of the groom), Toronto; Mr. and Mrs. McHenery, Mr. and Mrs. Hickey, Mr. & Mrs. Marborough, Mr. & Mrs. W. Wiggins, Mr. & Mrs. W. Howe, Mr. & Mrs. M. O'Connor, Mr. & Mrs. McCarroll, Mr. J. Hyland, Mr. & Mrs. Jerry O'Connor, Mrs. Carroll (sister of the groom), Mr. & Mrs. John O'Connor, Mr. Temple, Mr. D. Shea, Miss Nora Hickey, Mr. Mike Minehan, Miss Alice Wright, Mr. T. Murphy, Mr. Mike Kelly, Mr. P. Doyle, Miss Nellie Harrington, Mrs. Geo. Graham, Mr. Mat Cooney, Miss Katie Doyle, Mr. Larry Doyle, Miss Maggie Hickey, Mr. Albert Campbell, Miss Nora Sullivan, Mr. M. Hickey and Miss Minnie Doyle. Police Constable Hyland and Mr. Temple furnished the music in the evening for dancing with the harp and violin, while Dective Davis kindly loaned his phonograph for the occasion, and Mr. Albert Campbell had his bagpipes and played several selections of Scotish Airs. They escorted the bride and groom to their new home at 3:30 a.am, playing the old time, "St. Patrick's Day in the Morning." The bride was the recipient of a beautiful and costly array of wedding presents. Best Wishes, Barry.

In 1853 Hall Caine, Manx novelist, was born. In 1974 the Ulster Workers Council Strike was held to bring down the Council of Ireland because the English army failed to enforce the Sunningdale Agreement. Sometime in May, 1169, Fitz Stephen, Herve de Mont Maurice and Maurice Pendergast led an English force consisting mainly of Flemings, in an invasion of Ireland at Bannow, Wexford. Dermaid MacMurrough, king of Leinster, joined them. They marched on Wexford which was a Danish town and then on Dublin, also a Dane town. Roderick O'Connor later gathered an army to march against MacMurrough. A good time was had by all.

In 1839 First Rebecca Riot, Efailwen, Wales. ( Our secretary's name is Rebecca and believe you me, a riot by her would be a fearsome thing). Anyone out there have any details on this memorable event. In 1982 European Parliament votes to ban use of plastic bullets in the EEC, though England indicates that it will continue to use them in Northern Ireland.

Reminds me of a story I used to tell about my mother (not true, of course). Seems that Mom had had child number 5 (I'm from a family of 7) and the doctor told her it would be unwise for her to have any more children, for the sake of her health. Mom said, "So how do I do this?" The doctor replied, "Sleep with your feet in a 10-gallon crock." Sure enough, a year goes by and Mom is back at the doctor's office for her yearly exam and he tells her she's pregnant. "Mrs. O'Connor, I told you to sleep with your feet in a 10-gallon crock!" She wept a moment and said, "I didn't have a ten-gallon crock, so I used two fives!" -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Monday, May 10, 1999 1:53 PM Subject: Irish Population > >Mrs. O'Donovan was walking down O'Connell Street in Dublin, and coming >in the opposite direction was Father O'Rafferty. > >"Hello," said the Father, "and how's Mrs. O'Donovan, didn't I marry you >two years ago?" > >"You did that, Father." > >"And are there any little ones yet?" > >"No, not yet, Father."
