    2. Thank you for the interest in the Calendar. Based on the response it is back on the OCONNOR-L. The source of most of the information is the celtic League American Branch (CLAB). They sell this calendar plus they have in the past published a journal of Celtica, things like Gaelic speaking in North America. Until the early 1960's there were still Gaelic speakers in several towns in New Foundland and there is a body of Gaelic literature and song (mind you, not very large) developed in Canada. My MacDougall ancestors in Nova Scotia were speakers. Today is St. Yves Day. He is the patron saint of the Bretons. In 1692 the French invasion fleet in support of James VII was defeated at the Battle of Cape Barfleur. In 1795 James Boswell, Scottish biographer of Samuel Johnson, died.

    2. In 1810 Robert Tannahill, Scottish song writer, died. In 1974 Unionist bombings killed thirty-three in Dublin and Monaghen. In 1974 the 1st Annual Pan-Celtic Conference, a three-day event held at Hunter College, CUNY.The event was originated by the Hunter Keltic Club. It was the first event of its kind in the USA. (Note: All things Celtic have been increasing in popularity from traditonal Scottish Games to the newer Celtic Festivals) For those who plan to flit on Flitting Day, get your packing boxes early and avoid the rush. And don't forget to line up those friends you helped last year when they wanted to flit.

    2. I'm sure you don't want to tie up this website with opinions instead of information. BUT here goes anyway. Thank goodness you are in charge of this website and know how important the birth postings are to lots of us. I found my ggrandfather and his brother's baptisms in Donalene's postings, and I might never have found their parishes otherwise, in a lifetime. Pat

    3. My thanks to Pat O'Connor and Ley for the information on Henrietta cloth. I appreciate your taking the time to help. As for the temperature in Toronto in May, Pat, the nights can be quite cool--although the reception part would seem to have been quite heated. I don't know if you noticed but the wedding took place at 8:00am and the reception didn't end until 3:30 am the following morning (with the entire wedding party parading through the streets and singing(!!!!) the happy couple on their way to their new residence! Good job the police were part of the wedding party!! 1. cuig deag An Bhealtaine(15 May), or in Cornish, pympthek Me
    2. I am going through Seamas MacManus',The Story of the Irish Race, and came up with a few more events for An Bhealtaine. On May 12, 1652, the Articles of Kilkenny were signed by the Parliamentary Commission and the Earl of West Meath to end the Cromwellian war. It was decreed that after May 1, 1654, under penalty of death no Irish man, woman or child was to be found east of the River Shannon. Talk about ethnic cleansing. Back to todays date, cuig deag An Bhealtaine: In 1765 Mischief Bill received royal assent crown lands English customs officers on Mann to prevent "smuggling" between Ireland and the British Isles through Mann. In 1867 Eoin MacNeill, Irish nationalist was born. In 1993 Alan al Louarn, Breton patriot, died. Question: Are Manx cats born without tails, or does someone have to give the Manx tail a few yanx?? Unrelated item for quitar lovers: Check out the new CD by the duet of Jim Hall and Pat Metheny. The arrangement of Summertime is terrific as is the entire CD. Useful phrase: Ba mhaith liom beior. (pronounced bah woh lum byore) = I would like a beer.
