    1. Celtic Calendar
    2. I personally enjoy it and want to continue to receive it. I do not know what the person's problem is who has an objection to it. I guess there is always one in every bunch who wants to spoil things for the rest.

    2. And it goes on !! ImbolcNow - do not be disheartened - it is obvious from the responses that your efforts are appreciated and recognized. Do not let the few spoil it for the many. Hey Guys What is Going On! A regular contributor, who has the blessing of the list owner, puts in some effort to provide the list with information / education / entertainment etc. and is being upset because someone is not observing protocol. No contributor should be placed in this position, especially one who is as obviously sensitive as ImbolcNow is. Ley is The List Owner - Ley decides what goes in the list. If Ley says it is in the list and we do not like it then we complain to Ley. If it remains in the list then we have the ultimate edit option - either we do not read the item or we take ourself off of the "OCONNOR" list. LetÂ’s get back to some normality and in future observe the time honored route of communication in such matters and take all complaints etc. "Through The Chair". - -------------------------------------------------------------- Get your free email from AltaVista at http://altavista.iname.com

    2. Bravo Ley! Glad the Celtic Calendar is staying. I'm sure glad my vote counts somewhere. I would really have been disappointed had the calendar been dropped. Hope your lawn survives this crazy weather. By the way I'm an O'Connor, also. Sincerely, [email protected]

I will take OCONNOR-L off the list in a week. >> Hi, Perhaps I need to introduce myself again to a few people. My name is Ley K. O'Connor, and I AM THE LISTOWNER of O'Connor. If you have a problem with the Celtic Calandar (or anything else) , PLEASE Contact me, not the poster. I gave everyone the opportunity to vote on this very issue about a month ago. NOT ONE PERSON emailed me saying they were not interested in having this sent out on a daily basis, however, I did recieve e-mails from over 30 people asking to keep the Celtic Calendar. I gave my blessings and only asked that the subject was clearly marked "Celtic Calendar" so that the one person who complained (but, never to me) could delete it. I'm so unhappy about all of this, we have NEVER, EVER had a lot of flame wars and insults thrown as this issue has brought forth. Not even for the few spams that have managed to get through the filters. Please stop. The Celtic Calendar WILL REMAIN !!! The list has voted and that is the way it will be. And that should be the LAST WORD !! If you have a problem with it write me, not the poster, I'm an e-mail away [email protected] Ley K. O'Connor And in answer to a question the other day, I am a female, 8 grandchildren, my first concert as an adult was at the Hollywood Bowl with Sonny and Cher, Joan Baez and Cesar Chavez and the grape and lettuce boycott, you figure it out. My Given name is Jaqulyne Kirsten Mari BeverLey Ane Katrinka, translated into English, Jacquelyn Kristene Marie BeverLey Anne Katherine. The Only girl in a family of 10 children. My parents had to use all of the family names that had not been used on the first 5 boys. So now you all know why I use the name Ley, short, easy to write, say and I enjoy all of the questions about "are you a female or a male, can't tell by your name." PS: And please after last nights 4 inches of snow and possible chance of more tonight, our desert/mountaintop wildfowers are gone, alas what will I do ? I'm single and old and need to do more than dream about a future husband. I'm running out of time here. Midsummers eve is fast approaching and I'm beginning to panic. Please say a little "lawn prayer" for us, we just put it in last Sunday, finally . Figures it would snow. LOL

    2. John, Seems we've covered this before. You're properly identifying the contents in the Subject Line -- so if someone is not interested, all they have to do is hit their DELETE key. MANY listers have expressed their interest ~AND THANKS ~ in your daily postings. ~AND~ the Listowner has also given her opinion on this subject stating the same. If someone has a problem, they should be addressing Ley, the Listowner, not you. So, this should not be ~your~ problem. You are doing a good service here!! I believe the Majority of this List looks forward to the Celtic Calendar. So Please continue. For "the other request" you received to not receive this -- PLEASE USE YOUR DELETE KEY! Linda

I will take OCONNOR-L off the list in a week. tri' An Meitheamh, deardaoin,(3 June, Thursday), or in Breton, tri Mezheven, Diriaou In 1866 the American Fenians under O'Neill defeated the English crown forces at Ridgeway, Ontario. "British Square" was broken. Unfortunately for the Fenians the US government decided to quit supplying them. They had to retreat back to Buffalo where they were arrested. So much for the Irish invasion of Canada. In 1949 Father Vallee, Breton grammerian and lexicologist died. In 1974 Michael Gaughan, Irish political prisoner, died on a hunger strike. Early information on Midsummers Eve: This event occurs on the 23rd of June. We have a small bonfire. When there are single women in the group they go out into our woods and fields to collect blossoms from seven varieties of flowers. That night they put the blossoms under their pillow. The old legend says that they will dream about their future husband. If nothing else it can be an education in wildflowers. If anyone is aware of any other quaint practices associated with this ancient celebration, please pass them on.

    3. I usually would reply personally but since some insensitive clod decided they didn't want your Celtic calendar, I am replying both to you personally and to the O'Connor list. As the listowner of three Irish lists: Ire-Limerick, Boyle and O'Connor-Tipp, I request that you add all three lists to your list for posting. I also would like to know if anyone from any of these lists complain to you personally. All three lists allow open dialog including politics. All I ask is for everyone to be polite and respectful. We can agree to disagree. If you get complains, I will give the complainer one chance and then drop them from the list. I think what you have been doing has been a service to genealogy. I appreciated your hard work and dedication and I commend you. Thank you. 2. do' An Meitheamh, De' Ceadaoin (2 June, Wednesday), or in Cornish, deu Metheven, De Mergher Parts of the following are from the 1998 Celtic Calendar published by the Celtic League, P.O. Box 20153, Dag Hammerskjold Postal Center, New York, NY 10017 or 1-800-626-CELT. ( By the way, it is marginally useful to know that the Celtic year starts on our 1st of November. That makes Halloween the Celtic New Years Eve.) A Manx saying: Ta keeayll ommidjys ny slooid ny t'ee ec dooinney creeney dy reayll. Or, Wit is follishness unless a wise man has it to keep. In 1257 the Battle of Cymerau was fought. Weslh forces led by Meredudd ap Rhys defeated the invading English army. In 1581 James Douglas, Scottish inventor of the guillotine (the Maiden) was -- you guessed it -- guillotined. Now the question is, was this an industrial accident? " Let's see there, laddie. A' think it needs a lit'le adjustment right aboot here-------OOps!!! WHACK." And there went the Workmens Comp premium for the year.

    2. De Maire ata' ann ( pronounced, je MAWR-ch a-THAW on) It is Tuesday. Aon An Meitheamh (pronounced, ayn un MEH-hev). Starting the month with a Scottish saying, Ma's maith leat do mholadh, faigh bas: ma's maith leat do chaineadh, pos. Or, If you want to be praised, die; if you want to be blamed, marry. ( Well, isn't that cute.) In 1831 the Merthyr Rising begins in Wales. In 1866 the American Fenians led by General John O'Neill invaded Canada from Buffalo, New York and captured Fort Erie. This attack was supported by the US government with supplies and a wink of the eye. More on this in a couple of days. How about a reenactment of this? But let's use the Peace Bridge this time. Or maybe they have one.

    1. Michigan search site
    2. The Michigan Division of Vital Records and Health Statistics set up a website where you can search an index to death records for all Michigan counties from about 1867 to 1882. I saw about a dozen Connors/Conners, but nothing came up under O'Connor. Some were from Detroit and some from Sault St. Marie, and other places. See: http://www.mdch.state.mi.us/PHA/OSR/gendis/index.htm None of my family is from Michigan but it's an interesting site.

    1. University of Washington Library online
    2. The above university in Seattle, Washington now has their library online at: http://catalog.lib.washington.edu/search There are 75 books listed under "irish and immigration" search words. Some of these books are older and some are newer. Those of you looking for history on certain subjects might find books of interest listed in this index, along with the publishers name, so you might write to that publisher and order them. Some of you might be able to order them though an interlibrary loan. Talk to your school, local library, or genealogical society about helping you with this. It's not always possible, but worth a try. Pat
