He died on Tuesday, 1 September 1896. In the "Wilmington Star" ( Wilmington, NC), Friday, September 4, 1896. ---Durham Sun: Ransom O'Briant died at his home near Brassfield last evening quite suddenly. He was eating supper, when his head dropped over upon the table. Before anyone could reach him, he was dead. If Mr. O'Briant had lived until day after tomorrow he would have been 77 years of age. In the Durham Recorder (Durham NC), Thursday, September 3, 1896. ---Died Suddenly There was a sudden death near Brassfield last Tuesday evening. Ransom O'Briant, brother of Calvin O'Briant, who lives near this city, was eating supper when he suddenly expired without a moment's notice. He was about 77 years of age and had many friends and relatives in Durham and Person counties. The remains were interred at the family burying ground near his house yesterday afternoon. The last sad rites over his body was attended by quite a crowd from Durham. NOTE: Family burying ground is off Miami Blvd, Durham, NC.
