    2. Robert Douglas: Newspaper Obituary and Death Notice Edwardsville Intelligencer (IL) - October 22, 2007 Deceased Name: Robert Douglas IL United States Robert G. Douglas, age 75, of Granite City, died on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, at 2:29 p.m. at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City. He was born on August 31, 1932, in Pittsburgh, Pa.; the son of the late George and Mona Matthews Douglas. He married Rose Marie Poneta, on April 28, 1951, in Mitchell. They were owners and operators of Canal Motel, Inc., on Chain of Rocks for many years. She preceded him in death on April 25, 2006. He was a member of Granite City Masonic Lodge No. 835, Ainad Shriners, and the Tri-City Shrine Club. Involved in his community, he served several positions including as Chouteau Township Drainage District Commissioner and Road Commissioner. He also was employed as a realtor in the area for many years. He is survived and will be greatly missed by two sons: David L., and wife Veronica, Douglas of Granite City, Jack L., and wife Rose, Douglas of Smyrna, Tenn., a daughter: Carol L. Hamilton of Fenton, Mo.; a sister: Sylvia Becker of Caseyville; grandchildren: Stephanie, Joshua Blair, Caryn, Evan and Michael; and other extended family and many friends. In addition to his beloved wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by a son; Robert L. Douglas and by a granddaughter: Emily Anne Douglas. Visitation will be on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Irwin Chapel in Granite City. Masonic Rites will be Tuesday, at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 10 a.m., with Rev. Denise McGary and Rev. Robert Henry Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery on Nameoki Road in Granite City.
