    1. [O-C-L] Re: O-C-D Digest V02 #5
    2. Thanks. I will check it out. I am currently on a tear about the Otterbein alumnae office because the only kind of communication I get from them other than the Towers is fundraising stuff and I am ticked off about it. Also, I think the book store should do mailings to alumnae because I think they would buy a lot of Otter stuff but they tell me that the book store is owned by a private company and the college has nothing to do with it. When I talked to the book store they said they had proposed mailings and more ads in Towers but that the alumnae office did not want to do anything about it. I am trying to start a one-woman revolution to shake them up. I have been a rabble rouser since Otterbein when I told the sophomores I thought the Freshman beanies were demeaning and I was not going to do their stupid breaking-in-the-freshman nonsense so you see I have not changed and if anything--at age 66--am even worse because I feel I have nothing to lose and everything to gain. 1. [O-C-L] Re: O-C-D Digest V02 #4
    2. Hi, Sheila. I think you may mean the unofficial Otterbein web site on AOL is useless, right? The site you may want to use is the official alumni site at http://www.otterbein.onlinecommunity.com/ It has lots of options for contacting former students who have signed in with OC. They also have class notes, forums, searches, more. For what's new at OC try: http://www.otterbein.edu/calendar/ And the home of the official site is: http://www.otterbein.edu/ The OC page on AOL started a few years before the official site came into being. At first it did have email addresses and comments from OC students. When Otterbein set up their own web site, there was no need for this kind of unofficial duplication. Yep, it was useless. So now it's just a site with some Otterbein history. But the official sites are sure worth checking out. When is the next Otterbein choir--band--orchestra--tour and where are they touring? Not all of us are sports nuts although its nice to know Otterbein has a good basketball team this year. What's available for sale at the book store and how do you order it? Many of us "seniors" are on the internet and at other sites daily and would use the Otterbein web site if it had anything to offer--which it does not in my opinion. 1. [O-C-L] Web site update
    2. The old "Otterbein On-Line" has just been updated with a new focus. Rather than providing space for current and former OC students to sign in, the site is now dealing with the history of Otterbein. Gus' piece on Prof and Mrs. Lee Shackson is still there, and I've added a couple of old pictures of Otterbein University students in the late 1800s, plus various other links. To replace the guestbook that has been collecting names and memories here on AOL, I've set up a Yahoo group, cleverly called "otterbein". You are invited to post your favorite stories about OC, when you graduated, what you are doing now, etc., there. Yahoo protects your email address, which is something I couldn't do here on AOL. Yahoo also lets you upload pictures. So if any of your ancestors went to Otterbein, and you want to add a picture and bio of them at Yahoo, that would be interesting, too. To join the Yahoo group, go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/otterbein register with Yahoo, and sign in. You can also subscribe by email at: otterbein-subscribe@yahoogroups.com You can set your options at Yahoo to either get messages via email, or just to read them on-line every so often. 1. [O-C-L] Otterbein genealogy question
    2. Not sure if this list is still functioning, but I have come across a puzzle about a former OC student and wonder if anyone on here has access to an answer. Cora Scott went to, and I think graduated from, Otterbein around the end of the 1800s or early 1900s. Leoti Duncan Longman (who I think was the OC freshman class president of 1895) somehow knew Cora, because when Leoti was dying in 1916, Cora was noted in a family diary as one of her visitors. Leoti's cousin, my mother, knew Cora Scott, and visited her in the Otterbein Home in the 1940s and/or 50s. The only other info I've been able to find out about Cora Scott was that she always wore a black dress, even when her class picture was taken and all the other girls were wearing white. Do any of you have access to old Otterbein graduation lists, or any kind of old records to shed light on who Cora Scott was? She likely was from Butler County or the Cincinnati area. I wonder if she was a relative or a family friend. Thanks for any help. Nancy Sween Kansas City

    1. [O-C-L] Florida coverage with OC alum
    2. Are any of the rest of you watching MSNBC's coverage of the Florida counts with Chris Jansing? Someone said (was it in Towers?) that she is an OC grad. So of course, I think of Otterbein every time I see her... which is daily, lately. Someone at Otterbein said she would take over this list. Hope so. Nancy Sween http://christian.terrashare.com

    1. [O-C-L] Otterbein List
    2. Hey, why not do an article in the Towers? I'm surprised it has not been featured yet. Also, I'd like to see Otterbein get a more impressive web site. Check out Pataskala Ohio's for an example, which I found while browsing.

    2. Pat Kessler mentioned some new things on-line for alumni on the Otterbein home page, so I checked it out. Sure enough! The area is at http://www.otterbein.onlinecommunity.com I've registered (found my code on the "Platinum Plus" ad that came from OC in today's mail) and if I can figure out how to move the "Otterbein On-Line" web page http://members.aol.com/Otterbein2/ from AOL to the online community, maybe I will. Otterbein even offers us free email! Things are looking good <smile> Nancy Sween class of 1965
