HBH 1890 March 29-AUCKLAND Friday Emma FEATHERSTONE, daughter of Mr FEATHERSTONE, owner of the steam yacht NAUTILUS, was dangerously crushed between the yacht and the wharf at LUCAS Creek yesterday, and is supposed to be dying. At the Supreme Court in Chambers today Mr HESKETH moved for a summons to show cause whey the place of trial of the libel action, THOMPSON v Wanganui Herald, should not be changed, and the writ set aside. Mr COOPER opposed the motion, which Judge CONOLLY dismissed. The case will thus be heard in AUCKLAND. DEAN's jam factory in PONSONBY was destroyed by fire this morning. There was a large stock of jam and fruit on the premises at the time. A house of six rooms at East TAMAKI, owned by Mr WALROND, and occupied by Mrs Mc ALPINE, was burnt down yesterday afternoon Cecil CRAWFORD, of NAPIER, has been arrested here on a charge of embezzling £24 at RUSSELL Captain MEADES, of the steamer WANAKA, who arrived from the South yesterday, is seriously ill of a complaint, which the doctors suppose is "La GRIPPE." The chief officer is supposed to be suffering from the same complaint The S.S. RICHMOND, which arrived today from SAMOA, TAHITI, RARATONGA, and TONGA, brings Mr R EXHAN, British Consul at RARATONGA, on a visit to New Zealand. At TAHITI Captain HUTTON, master of the RICHMOND, was presented with a testimonial from the French officials who were passengers on the steamer from AUCKLAND, when a severe hurricane was experienced last trip. The Auckland Schooner, JULIA PRICE, for whose safety fears were entertained, having been forty days out from TAHITI to RARATONGA, arrived at the latter place after a very rough experience. Her provisions and water were gone, and the crew were on the point of starvation. George Mc BRIDE-merchant tailor and clothing manufacturer, was examined before the Sweating Commission yesterday. Sanitary Inspector (G GOLDIE) deposed Richard MILLS-President of the Tailoresses' Union-gave evidence Robert FRENCH was examined to the early closing movement Today Joseph EHRMAN-who employs 70 hands in his clothing factory-examined-he had seven apprentices. These worked three months for nothing, three months for 2 6d, six months for 5s, and the second year for 7s 6d.
