TANNER, J.P., with stealing a bottle of bovril from Mr E.D. SMITH. The Bench found the prisoner guilty and (a previous conviction for larceny having been proved against him) sentenced him to a month's imprisonment with lard labor. A case in which a ratepayer of the Meanee district resisted a demand for payment of a rate occupied the attention of the R.M. for a considerable time yesterday.....The defendant, Mr A. M'DONALD, was represented by Mr CRESSWELL. The claim was for 1 pound 19s 4d, and had been twice previously before the Court.......After hearing evidence and copious argument his Worship postponed his decision till Tuesday next.
