Our WAIPAWA correspondent, writing on Saturday says:- A four-roomed cottage at KAIKORA, belonging to Henry SMYTHE, was discovered to be on fire at midnight. The flames had got such a hold when observed that nothing could be saved. Mr SMYTHE was away from home at the time, and the two children were saved by being handed out of the window by their mother to the neighbors who flocked to the scene.
