KING Wife Desertion James ROWE was charged with deserting his wife, Sarah and going to reside beyond NZ. The case was one of the first that had ever been before a jury, certainly as far as Napier was concerned for wife desertion. The accused left his wife in April 1890 but was brought back from Victoria. Sarah ROWE deposed she had married the prisoner in April 1880 and was living with him in April 1890 at Petane.
