    3. Judy Weller The Supreme Court was occupied all day yesterday dealing with the RESTALL case. The case for the Crown closed at midday, and D. MILNE, of TARADALE, gave evidence on behalf of the prisoner, and said that during the four years for which RESTALL had worked for him he had borne a good character. It was quite possible that during that time the accused might have used arsenic to clear out a boiler, which would account for the presence of crystals in his pocket. MR LUSK addressed the jury at considerable length, dealing forcilby, clearly, and concisely with the many aspects of the complicated skein of evidence presented. In conclusion he asked the jury if they would have hung RESTALL in similar testimony if the poison had proved fatal, and, pointing out that his client had suffered severely both in mind and body while confined for nine months awaiting the final decision of the Court, said that if they condemned him in a verdict which would mean imprisonment now, he would probably die at the hands of the jury instead of the hangman........ After a retirement of 55 minutes they returned with a verdict of "Not Guilty" and the following rider: "This jury is unanimously of opinion that poisons kept on stations should be more carefully guarded under lock and key and in charge of managers only." The Court was then adjourned till 10 o'clock this morning, when besides other business sentence will be pronounced on Mrs LAWS.
