Judy Weller Isabella LAWS appeared at the Supreme Court yesterday morning for sentence on several charges of forgery....... Prisoner had nothing to say in answer to the usual challenge. His Honor said so much business was done with the banks, and so much trust had to be given to signatures, that he felt himself not at liberty to pass such a sentence as he might otherwise have done, in the case of a married woman who had occupied a respectable position and who had a large family depending on her exertions and help. He did not feel himself at liberty, however, to give way to that feeling of sympathy which one must necessarily have......... Prisoner would be sentenced to twelve calendar months' imprisonment with hard labor.
