    3. HB Herald, Mon. June 25, 1894 At the Magistrate's Court on Saturday, before Mr J.W. NEAL, J.P., Robert M'KERROW, for drunkenness, was fined £1 and costs. Robert KENNEDY, similarly charged, was convicted and discharged with a caution. Mr John WHITE, whose death is referred to by our Waipawa correspondent, was one of the earliest of the pioneer settlers of Hawke's Bay. His career was a good illustration of what can be achieved by sagacity allied to perseverance. His widow and family will have the sympathy of a wide circle in their bereavement. A good number of the friends of Mr W.E. CHAPMAN, of Messrs WILLIAMS and KETTLE, Limited, assembled at the Spit on Saturday to wish him bon voyage, as he was starting on a holiday trip to Australia. Mr CHAPMAN has been engaged for the past nine years at the port, where he has earned the esteem of a large circle by his never failing courtesy and good humor.
