Judy Weller A scholar at the PORT AHURIRI district school named Lily HERON met with a nasty accident yesterday afternoon. It appears that she was exercising on one of the ring swings when she suddenly let go and fell to the ground, breaking one of her arms just above the wrist. She was taken to her home by Mr TRIMMER, the second master, and medical aid was called in.

Judy Weller WAIPAWA - A sad accident occurred at WAIPUKURAU on Thursday afternoon. A youth named PILCHER in company with another young man went out duck shooting in the lake. PILCHER was wading in a lagoon putting out decoys, when he suddenly caught sight of some ducks, and hastily snatched up his gun as it lay in the boat by the barrels. In doing so one of the hammers caught against the seat, and on being released fell on the nipple and exploded, sending the charge through the palm of his hand and wrist, shattering the bones nearly to the elbow. He was taken to the county hospital, where Drs. GODFRAY and REED amputated the arm at the elbow joint.
Judy Weller A narrow escape from drowning occurred on Saturday afternoon off the Eastern Spit. Mr Walter JOHNSON of the Deeds Office was on his way to the pier when he noticed an object floating on the surface of the water some 60 to 80 yards from the shore, and on hurrying to the beach saw that it was the body of a child. Mr JOHNSON, who was suffering from a severe cold, immediately divested himself of his clothing and swam out and brought the child to the shore, to all appearnce lifeless, and summoned the assistance of Messrs HAWKE and PEAKE. The child, which proved to belong to Mr Dennis M'CARTHY, was taken to the house of Mr HUNT, and Dr. MENZIES was telephoned for. After two hours' rubbing and the necessary restoratives having been applied, the child regained consciousness. Mr JOHNSON was supplied with dry clothing by one of the neighbors, and was driven home by Dr. MENZIES.
Judy Weller The boy William STARKEY pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing £3 17s from the residence of John HANNA at the S.M. Court on Saturday morning. Mr CRESSWELL, who represented the accused, asked that he be leniently dealt with, as it was proposed to send him into the country and away from temptation. Mr TURNBULL decided to give him an opportunity to commence a fresh career, and ordered that he be convicted and discharged.

Hallo all, I am trying to reseach my maternal family line, have got to Mary Ann ROBERTS, born about 1850 in Jersey Is. I know she married a John Bernard HOLLIS 1875 Taradale, Hawkes Bay. They had at least two daughters Elsie born about 1878 (my Great Grandmother) and Millicent. Both of these ladies married Howell Brothers, Ellsie to Edward John HOWELL and Millicent to William James HOWELL. I am most interested if any one has information on Mary Ann ROBERTS. The police arrested a man named Francis THOMPSON on Saturday at NAPIER on a charge of failing to provide for the maintenance of an illegitimate child at WOODVILLE. He will be brought before the Bench today, and will probably be remanded to WOODVILLE.

SUTTON, J.P., yesterday morning, charged with stealing £3 17s from the residence of John HANNA, Owen street, and remanded till today on the application of the police, who will probably ask for his committal to an industrial school. HASTINGS - Mr S. RIDGWAY, who has for some years been in the well-known business of Messrs BURNET and Co., has purchased their HASTINGS branch from that firm, and will now conduct it on his own account.

HBH 1896 Feb 26 BURTTON Flags were at half-mast yesterday at the Port out of respect to the memory of Mr William BURTTON. Deceased had been a resident at the Ahuriri for about 30 He was for many years storeman in the old firm of WATT Bros., then at the New Zealand Shipping Company's stores, and of late years wharfinger to the Napier Harbor Board. His funeral takes place at 3 this afternoon.
