    1. [NZ-HB-PB] adolphus bisson
    2. Lesley Hickey
    3. Hi everyone I have been searching for years for the whereabouts of adolphus bisson.  I contacted births, deaths and marriages and after much searching they found him on their 1874 death register, (as adolph. bisson) having died in Napier aged 4.  I then asked Napier City Council if they had a burial record for that name, which they did not.  Much more searching on the web and I found him wrongly transcribed as adolphete bissan.  Another email to Napier City Council and they found him recorded as adolphete bisan and buried in the old Napier hill cemetery, in area 1859-1895, section one, plot/niche No 718.  Does anyone know how I would go about finding out where this would be in the cemetery?  Does somebody have a map of the cemetery? It just proves that 'never giving up' is the best policy.  Lesley

    3. HBH 1896 Feb 26 SUTTON C Constance Deep sympathy will be felt for Mr and Mrs F. SUTTON, in the loss of their daughter at the age of eighteen. She was taken ill about one week ago, and it was considered advisable to remove her to the hospital when an operation was performed for peritonitis, but she sank soon afterwards. Miss "Connie," as she was unanimously called, was a bright and promising young lady, having been dux of the Girls' High School at the last examination, and it was her intention to go to for the B.A. degree, when her studies were interrupted by the illness which ended in her untimely death.

After graduating, this talented lady carried on at a girls' high school in AUCKLAND with eminent success until Mr BESANT'S visit to this colony, when at great sacrifice she determined to devote herself to the Theosophical propaganda. The lady had a brilliant career at Canterbury College, and is the eldest daughter of the late Rev. Mr EDGER, a well-known AUCKLAND minister. She is said to be an eloquent speaker and an earnest worker in the cause she has at heart.

    3. Judy Weller At the S.M. Court yesterday morning Michael MURPHY sued John MONAGHAN for £18, the sum paid for a draught horse. The question was as to the soundness or otherwise of the horse, which the plaintiff claimed was lame and unfit for work. This the defendant denied. After a careful hearing the Bench found in favor of the latter with costs £1 16s. Mr LUSK appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr M'LEAN for defendant.

Judy Weller We regret that our WAIPAWA correspondent allowed himself to be misled in making a statement in last issue that a portion of a lamb's tongue had been grafted on to that of a patient of Drs. GODFRAY and REED. The former telegraphed us yesterday stigmatising the paragraph as absurd.

    3. Yes Shirley I agree and thank you for sharing that bit of humor with us. On the serious side and a good talking point is that when my children competed at athletics you were not allowed to have a person pace you for any race, whether cycle or athletics. Whether that still applies I do not know. It does show that rules stand for a number of years and it takes a lot to change or bend them Elaine Shirley wrote : " shame about the pacemaker." We understand that Mr J.O. SHORLAND has abandoned his idea of endeavoring to lower the bicycle record for 100 miles, as no pacemakers are available.

    3. Judy Weller Our WAIPAWA correspondent writing yesterday says:- I understand that in the recent case of excision of the tongue for cancer, Drs. GODFRAY and REED are attempting to graft a lamb's tongue to replace the natural one, and that they have great hopes of being successful. At the WOODVILLE Police Court Mrs SEXTON and a young woman named HICKS were fined £1 each, in default seven days' imprisonment, for stealing several articles from the TE ARO House branch and from Miss HAMILTON's shop. The women were looked upon as highly respectable, and great astonishment was occasioned locally when the charge was sheeted home to them, the stolen articles being found in Mrs SEXTON's house.

    3. Judy Weller The trial against the prisoner FOGGAN for escaping from legal custody has been adjourned, the man being ill, due to the exposure he was forced to suffer while fleeing from justice. After getting a pipe down 650 feet at WOODVILLE Mr GILBERD, the contractor, withdrew his pipes, and the bore immediately caved in. It is improbable the experiment will be proceeded with. Thirteen girls from the WOODVILLE school proceeded to VICTORIA on Saturday to play the Victorians at rounders. Mr STEVENSON accompanied the visitors. The game resulted in a win for WOODVILLE by 31 to 8.

    3. Judy Weller The late Mr W.E. BAMFORD's estate has been sworn at under £30. The life of the late Mr Arthur HERBERT, who was shot at MASTERTON, was insured, but it is feared that his policy has lapsed. The complete number of Mr HUTCHINSON's art union pictures are now at the DRESDEN Company's shop, including several not shown before. We understand that Mr J.O. SHORLAND has abandoned his idea of endeavoring to lower the bicycle record for 100 miles, as no pacemakers are available.
