Judy Weller The marks gained by Miss Lettie KING at the pupil teachers examination were 764, not 704, as reported by us yesterday. Mrs H.R. HAWEIS was amongst those present at the drawing-room given by the Princess of Wales on behalf of Her Majesty on the 15th May. Plans have been prepared by Mr WUNDRAM for the erection of an octagonal brick wall, surmounted by iron railings, round the band rotunda on the Marine parade, and the work will be proceeded with immediately.
Judy Weller Gerald DOWLING, 27 years of age, a native of NAPIER, and a resident of PORT AHURIRI, was admitted into the NAPIER hospital yesterday morning in a very low condition of health, and died in the afternoon. The medical staff refused to give a certificate, and the police were communicated with, the result being that Dr. MENZIES has been requested to make a post mortem examination, and the deputy coroner will hold an inquest at the hospital at 11.30 a.m. The deceased has been of intemperate habits of late, and notwithstanding that a prohibition order was issued against him some months ago he has been drinking heavily, and arrived home in an intoxicated condition every night for the past week. Deaths caused by intemperance have been alarmingly frequent of late, and we hope every opportunity will be given the police at the inquest to discover the publicans who have supplied the unfortunate man with liquor during the operation, or inoperation, of the order of the Court.

Judy Weller The auction of borough leases announced for yesterday turned out a regular "frost." Notwithstanding the eloquence of Mr HOADLEY, only one section (out of eight, situated in different parts of the borough) was disposed of, Mr D. KIRKPATRICK bidding £6, the upset rental, for town section 617, Colin-street, SPIT.
