Judy Weller Mr Harry WILSON, son of Mr H.C. WILSON, of this town, will leave LYTTELTON on Thursday next for ENGLAND, where he intends entering the CAMBRIDGE University. He has been a pupil at the WANGANUI College for some time. We wish him every success.
I have furthered my research into this family and found the death of Stanley Arthur FORDE in Napier in 1986. A relative on Stanley's paternal side in UK would be delighted to make contact with his family. Any help would be appreciated. Judy Weller BIRTH - DEAN - At Hospital Hill, NAPIER, on Monday, July 22nd, the wife of Rev. Oliver DEAN of a son. DEATH - FOREMAN - At HASTINGS, on the 22nd July, Thomas FOREMAN, aged 49 years. The funeral will leave deceased's late residence today (Wednesday), at 2.30 p.m., for the HASTINGS cemetery.
Judy Weller It is with deep regret that we chronicle the decease of Mr T. FOREMAN, of HASTINGS. Mr FOREMAN had been suffering for some months from aneurism of the heart, and died yesterday afternoon. He came from WANGANUI to HASTINGS about 30 years ago, and was one of the drivers on the old NAPIER-TAUPO coach road. He subsequently started a butchery in HASTINGS and retained the business for many years.......He leaves a widow and family to mourn his loss.
Sorry about that. Birth 09 Feb 1875 which means he would have been 13 when this "admittance" was recorded. Have also found an admission date to Norsewood School for Oscar F Lundgren on 25 Jan 1886. Parent or guardian just listed as AL. More than likely the same student. The Dannevirke Informal Group of NZSG may be able to assist. There is also reference to Marta/Martha and Anders Mattsson Lundgren in the book Svenskara I Nya Zeeland - a book on Swedish Emigration to NZ by Sten Aminoff. There are several also references to other Langrens in the book.. The NZ Gazette (2 Oct 1876 Page 721 ) also has a naturalisation record of Anders Lundgren This information is available at main centre libraries and at the NZSG Family Research Centre. Judy Weller Wm. ELLISON did not appear before the S.M. yesterday morning to answer a charge of drunkenness preferred against him, and his bail was consequently estreated. At the ORMONDVILLE, S.M. Court yesterday the licensee of the TAKAPAU Hotel was fined £5 and costs, and the conviction ordered to be endorsed on the license, for serving the man PROVAN, deceased, with liquor while he was under the influence of drink. Constable GORDON, who was recently prostrated by a serious attack of influenza, attended by delirium which rendered him rather violent, has, we are glad to relate, shown great improvement all round, and his medical adviser hopes to see him about again as well as ever in a week or two. The inquest on the body of Gerald DOWLING will be resumed at 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Mr SKEY's report has been received, to the effect that the stomach had no food in it, and it was excoriated. Mercury was found in the intestines, but none in the liver or kidneys. We understand that in the hospital mercury had been administered as medicine.
Judy Weller DEATH - FOREMAN - At HASTINGS, on the 22nd July, Thomas FOREMAN, aged 49 years. The funeral will leave deceased's late residence tomorrow, at 2.30 p.m., for the HASTINGS cemetery.

Judy Weller Thomas WILSON, arrested at the SPIT on a charge of drunkenness, was fined £1 and costs or three days' imprisonment by Mr TURNBULL, S.M., on Saturday. The Junior Club will debate this evening, "Is the maintenance of standing armies desirable?" Mr E.H. WILLIAMS will sustain the affirmative and Mr H. HILL the negative. Inspector EMERSON returned to NAPIER on Saturday, after a three months' sojourn in the URIWERA country in charge of a survey party....... Our WAIPAWA correspondent, writing on Saturday says:- A four-roomed cottage at KAIKORA, belonging to Henry SMYTHE, was discovered to be on fire at midnight. The flames had got such a hold when observed that nothing could be saved. Mr SMYTHE was away from home at the time, and the two children were saved by being handed out of the window by their mother to the neighbors who flocked to the scene. The house and furniture are said to be insured.

Judy Weller Charles GRIFFIN was sentenced to six months' imprisonment yesterday for stealing a portmanteau belonging to Miss BROWNING from Dr. MOORE's residence. Messrs SWAN and LARGE, J.'sP., presided and Mr CARNELL appeared for the accused. Mr SWAN animadverted on the carelessness of the second-hand dealer who received the goods. Detective KERBY intimated that an information would be laid against Mrs HANWELL, who was responsible. G.H. PERCIVAL, of HASTINGS, commission agent, has filed a statement in bankruptcy showing assets nil, liabilities (secured creditors £163, holding securities valued at £40, and unsecured creditors £312 16s 4d; total, £475 16s 4d.....
Judy Weller Constable STEPHENSON effected a smart capture yesterday morning. On Monday last a portmanteau and contests, valued at £16, was missed from the residence of Dr. MOORE, the property of Miss K. BROWNING, but the theft was conducted so smartly or with such good opportunity that it was thought the perpetrator would remain undiscovered. A man named GRIFFIN lately out of gaol after doing six months for larceny at GISBORNE was known to be knocking about town, and the police received instructions to keep a look out for him. Yesterday, while on his beat, Constable STEPHENSON's attention was attracted to a man who darted into the Star Hotel as though to escape observation, and though he did not know the man the astute guardian of the peace took the cue, and promptly arrested him. Subsequent inquiries elicited the fact that the man had disposed of the property to Mrs HANWELL at great sacrifice, and for 10s only. The accused will appear at the S.M. Court this morning to answer the charge.
Judy Weller To render the hospital nurses' home complete, and render it a home indeed, it is recognised that a piano is necessary. Mr RYMER proposed at a recent meeting of the Hospital Board that a piano should be procured, but the matter was not taken up enthusiastically. However, it has now been decided to provide an instrument by private subscription, and a list is now in circulation on which Mr COHEN's name appers as a subscriber of £5, and that of Mr H. WILLIAMS of a like amount.
