In the class for bulldogs he secured first place which his well known bull bitch VANITY FAIR, while in the collie classes he was well night invincible, securing first awards in the classes for dogs and puppies, and second honours in the class for bitches, besides winning the special prize for most points in the collie section.
Judy Weller J.M. TODD, coachdriver, has been fined 20s and costs 5s, and ordered to pay witnesses' expenses £2 17s by the HUNTSVILLE Bench, for cruelly beating a horse. The evidence went to show that after the horse was attached to a coach it refused to budge, whereupon the gentle Jehu thrashed it with a whip until it lay down, and then continued the castigation unremittingly for over 20 minutes!

Mr PEARCE, a guard on the PALMERSTON-NAPIER line of railway, has just inherited a large sum of money, and left on Tuesday for AUCKLAND, on his way to ENGLAND to claim it. The horse in Mr KITTOW's milk-cart bolted yesterday morning, with the result that the vehicle was brought into violent contact with a lamp-post in Dickens street. The result was a general smash up.
