    3. HBH 1890 May 5 Court Page Two A half-caste named Joseph THOMPSON alias Mc NAMARA, was brought up at the R M Court on Saturday before Mr G A PREECE and charged with the larceny as a bailee of a saddle and bridle, and with the larceny of a silver watch valued at £7. It appeared from given evidence that the accused was in employment at Alfred James MATTHEWS as a horse trainer, and the goods were left in accuser's custody. He made statement, which proved to be false, and it was subsequently found by the police that the saddle and bridle had been sold by accused to Mr BEECROFT, of Hastings, in satisfaction of a debt. 3. HBH 1890 May 5 Taradale News Page Two From Taradale correspondent who writes: - The public meeting held on Saturday night re the suppression of the small birds nuisance was very poorly attended Mr WATERHOUSE in the Chair It was admitted by those present that those who did the work of suppression last year, and much grain was thereby saved, but none of them with the exception of Messrs W HESLOP, A. and J MILNE, and W SNELL, would undertake the work again. After a hearty vote of thanks it was resolved after a motion by Mr MILNE-seconded by Mr HARRIS "That owing to the small attendance and slight interest taken in the matter of the destruction of small birds, no further steps to be taken." The question of forming a Farmer's Union and co-operative was discussed and unanimity of opinion that it would be a huge advantage to the district and would be well supported. Mr HARPHAM and seconded by Mr HARRIS that a committee be formed: - Messrs A MILNE W B HILL W HESLOP CORKHILL, Cartwright BROWN and the mover elected to collect information from societies that are in working order and report back to a public meeting at a later date.

    3. In 1874, my Gt Grandparents, John & Caroline MOORCOCK arrived on the Bebbington at Napier. They had bought land at Blackburn , central Hawkes Bay. Apparently they walked with 2 small children, ( one born on board ship ), to Waipawa, where they bought groceries from Bibby's Store, before making their was along the Tuki Tuki river, to bare land. All MOORCOCK / MORECOCK in N.Z. are related, unless someone has arrived in the past 20 or so years. John & Caroline Moorcock, became Bankrupt, moved to Napier briefly, about 1886, were then discharged from Bankruptcy, I suppose by selling their land. The family show in the School Rolls, & Electoral Rolls, Northern Wairarapa, at Mauriceville West, Hastwell, Mangamahoe. Then in the B.O.P. at Opouriao, Taneatua, & Whakatane areas By this time Caroline & John were at different addreses on the Electoral Rolls. John last shows in Tikokino 1909 1910. Also at Tikokino, at this time, was Charlotte Moorcock, a Nurse. Was Charlotte the new woman in John's life ? We know that he went to Australia, had 2 new daughters, (who may have been born in either country, names unknown, ) & Charlotte does not show further. Noone knows when & where he died. I have been delighted when the name shows in the News Paper transcripts on this site. I would love to know more about the 1/2 sisters of my Grandmother, or, in fact anything further about the family that shows. Mary Legarth
