Further names for Bush Advocate transcriptions. I am researching PHAIR, & HAMPTON, these ( related to each other,) families, of Northern Ireland descent, moved from Canterbury to Pahiatua, Woodville, Hastings, Waipawa areas. The PHAIR names are John his wife Ellen ( maiden name Hampton,) & their children. Isabella & Alexander Phair, show in the late 1890's on the roll briefly, at Woodville school. I think that they had also lived at Pahiatua before, or, after this. The older children William, Robert, & Stephen Phair, show on the Electoral Rolls, from the early 1900's in Hastings, & Waipawa areas. HAMPTON show in Pahiatua, & Central Hawkes Bay. Mary Legarth

Hi Pip I have had a look at http://www.emiarch.dk/search.php3?l=en which is the database of the Copenhagen police emigration register. Each of the families that I have checked came from different places in Denmark and each family had a different contract number indicating that they travelled as an independent family group. It may be different for the single men who could have travelled in small groups of men all from the same parish. Emigration agents operated throughout Denmark and made their own passage arrangements for the people that they had recruited. The police register was to keep the agents honest - not to keep a list of who was migrating.
