Two months ago he had been drinking heavily about that time, and is supposed to have committed suicide by taking poison. The deceased was about 50 years of age and is believed to have left a wife and family residing in SYDNEY.

HBH 1892 Oct 20 WARRIMOO Auckland Wednesday The new inter-colonial service provided by Messrs HUDDART, PARKER, and Co was inaugurated by the arrival of the Warrimoo early this morning from SYDNEY, after a fast passage. She brought 58 passengers for NEW ZEALAND. She leaves again at noon today for South and MELBOURNE. A great deal of interest was manifested here, and the steamer was inspected and admired by a large number of people. It was anticipated that she would break the record between SYDNEY and AUCKLAND, but owing to the completion of a long voyage, and alleged inferiority of the coal, she did not accomplish this. She left SYDNEY on the 15th at 6 30 a.m., and arrived at AUCKLAND at 1.30 a.m. on the 19th, after a passage of 3 days 19 hours.

GARSTIN, the traffic manager for this district, has intimated to Mr DINWIDDIE, the secretary at the Hawke's Bay Lawn Tennis Club, that in response to the representations made by him the Railway Commissioners have decided to issue family commutation tickets, available on Saturdays, by the 1.35 p and 3 p.m. trains only, to members of cricket and tennis clubs, to be available for use by such members and their friends. These tickets, which will include 25 returns, will cost £1 4s, and will be issued from Saturday, November 5th, and every subsequent Saturday up to April 30th, 1893. It is intended that any number of people may go out with the holders of these tickets provided they all go together. No doubt members will avail themselves of these.

    3. HBH 1892 Oct 20 IONIC Wellington Mr PURVIS, chief engineer of the Ionic, succeeded in bringing nine lobsters alive out of 42. On two previous attempts all died. They are a present from Mr EWEN, of SARGOOD, Son, and EWEN, to the Otago Acclimatisation Society, and will be sent South as soon as possible. Mr PURVIS also brought 25 Teneriffe partridges and a pair of Teneriffe grouse for the local Society. Captain EDWIN predicts some very bad weather in the north and south of NAPIER. He says there will be some very hard gales.
