Hi Di The National Preservation Office which is part of the National Library has a booklet on preserving items such as this. See their website http://www.natlib.govt.nz/about-us/people/structure/national-preservation-of fice. The most important thing is keeping the bible out of the light. It should probably be wrapped in acid free tissue. I have received a family bible (printed 1804) that was my grandmothers and would like to know what to do with it to keep it preserved. At present it sits in Bubble Wrap with newspaper around it but am sure that there is more that I need to do to keep this in the very good condition that it is in.
