AUCKLAND-Saturday A native difficulty is reported from Kawakawa, Bay of Islands. A survey party started to survey a road eight miles from Kawakawa, through the Waiomio Valley, to open up 4000 acres for settlement. The natives refused to allow the Survey to proceed, and even if they did they would want £1000 compensation for the land and the road fenced on both sides. The survey party called in the police, but they refused to make any arrest without instructions from their superior officer.
