The New Zealander Page 2 April 9 1851 http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/ PUBLICANS' LICENSES The following are the names of the persons whose applications for Publicans' Licenses will come under the consideration of the Magistrates on Tuesday next, the 15th instant. It will be observed that there are an un-usually large number of new applicants. Were they all to succeed, the public-houses in Auckland and its neighbourhood would be nearly doubled at once. At all events so far as these Houses are necessary for public accommodation, it is obvious that they should be as much as possible confined to the leading thoroughfares. In the back and little frequented streets they too frequently become rather nuisances and receptacles of vice.
