Does any one know the history of Mata Pere who treated the wife of Te Kooti. Unsure if this was 1st, 2nd or 3rd wife. A letter was sent to the government - here is the english translation Mata Pere has sought among us for occasions where she could help those who were diseased, or sick in other ways, sothat she could give them medicine and help in other ways. This woman, Mata Pere, as far as we are concerned, is exactly as she seemed. She has been among us for three years and during this time has worked with many who had infection because of the compassion she felt alone (I think she was not paid for these services). As far as we are concerned her qualifications are extremely good. As a result of this petition Mary Jane Berry was authorised by the government to deal with Neil McKay, Chemists and Herbalists of Auckland who provided her with free medicine. Thanks Michelle
