It was once a flourishing gold mining town beside a beautiful riverbed. My parents owned the Waikino Hotel in the 1980's so am very familiar with the area. Have a look at www.tour.thepeninsular.co.nz for further info on the area. I 'googled' Waikino and there are numerous sites of interest for the history. Cambridge is a beautiful town in the Waikato Province of NZ in the North Island. It is a rich, lush farming area now but I remember as a younger girl driving between Te Awamutu and Cambridge when the farmers were breaking in the land by 'burning off' the poor growth. It is now lovely pastureland. Hautapu Cemetery is looked after by Waipa Council (Te Awamutu) I notice that someone in the Te Awamutu Branch of NZ Society of Genealogists is interested in the WALKER family. Their website for contact details is www.genealogy.org.nz. You may wish to contact them for further research.....there may be a small cost??! Hamilton Library are likely to hold records that would confirm 'where' the couples were married. You can 'google' for contact details.
