Thank you Margaret, I will have to make some more enquiries, regarding the year Alice Mays death, I had thought she died prior to 1982, as her grandson had brought her house, but she may have gone into care, you would hardly believe two Alice May James's both died within such a short space of time. thanks for helping clarify this. cheers penne

I have a birth for a person of her name on NZbdms , but DOB of 28 sept 1897 which does not match her death details on NZbdms ,with her date of birth 26 sept 1900,however she may have downsized her age to match her husband. Until I can check a m/f for this birth location, I cannot be sure it's her, and the new Kiwi CD is very light on references for the far north.. Thanks Michelle,I had eliminated the second death,as I went to Australia to live in 1982 and she had died prior to me going, and had not thought to check that second Alices year of birth. Thanks for that, so that leaves me with a Alice May Phillips with no NZ birth reg in NZ. Looks as though, a printout is required, unless someone has her in their tree. cheers penne there are two Alice May James / 1976/42242 James Alice May 26 September 1900 1983/47865 James Alice May 30 September 1897 What about this second one!! Did she remarry outside NZ to a mr Young ? Hi all One of my ancestors, Mary Ann Hackett, came to NZ aged 10 on the Aliguis as an assisted passenger. The ship arrived at Auckland on 27th October 1865. THe ship left London 26 July and Mary Ann is described as Irish. The passenger list has a column headed BOND PAGE and a number, in her case, 032/096. Does anyone know what this means? Wayne
Hello Listers Is there anyone on the list who could give me information on the Garth Owen/Garthowen Nursing Home at Frankton Junction Hamilton. I believe my mother was born there and also a cousin later on i.e. 1926 – 1964 period of time. Address, staff, anyone else born there and have a history of the place, I would be pleased to hear from you. Sandra Auckland, New Zealand
A big thank you to all who kindly offered their thoughts on the 'Labouring Chemist'. Essentially it is boiled down to the fact that Masons and builders needed particular types of mortar for different stone, buildings etc., and so they would have what would amount to 'recipes' or 'formulas' and the Labouring Chemist would head off and gather together the different minerals, and whatever to fit that formula, this being a form of 'alchaemy', can't spell. Hence the Chemist bit. Its been very interesting and of course those building something couldn't just nip down to the Builders yard for a trailer load of this and that and I believe this occupation provided for that need. If anyone else has more to add, or would like to comment on what I have deduced then it would be most gratefully received. Cheers Brenda Hamilton New Zealand Hi all, and a happy new year to you all, hope its going well, so far.. Can some kind soul help me please, I have an original parish marriage record 1861 Birstall Yorkshire England, and the Brides father's occupation is given as 'Labouring Chemist'. I wonder if it is involved in the gathering of minerals (digging them up - thats the 'Labouring' part) and then some sort of analysis ?? being the 'Chemist' part. The 1851 census gives this man David RODGERS, born 1811 Throwleigh, Shropshire, England occupation as 'Labourer', the family were living in Wigan, Lancashire then. His daughter Jane Ann RODGERS married John THORNTON in 1861. Thank you for any advice or help. Kind regards Brenda Hamilton New Zealand

Thanks Penne. Slowly piecing together the puzzle and tidying up the loose ends. I have finally solved one piece of the puzzle everyone seems to have had in all the articles I have read about him and have the names of all his daughters as well as his sons. Scored an actual birth date for him in the obit which is nice. I must have missed it in my previous searches.
