    3. Yes thank you Ray, that will be move number two.I was trying the easy way first. So many old photos thrust into boxes, I was kinda hoping a family member might have been glad to part with one. Thomas was in gaol many times,I daresay there will be one of him on his prison files, thats one source I havent dabbled in yet.cheers penne

    3. Penne, The most likely source of photos would be the families. Do you know if Thomas and Olive had children? Their dates of death are given in the cemetery search list on-line for Manukau Memorial Gardens. The dates will lead to death notices for names of any children. Maurice and Ellie were buried at Kelvin Grove, Palmerston North and the local papers there might have useful death notices. 3. As others have said, Shortland is now part of Thames. Thames is on the Hauraki Gulf (or Firth of Thames) and in 1867 the main transport there from Auckland would have been by boat. The incident is on-line in Papers Past: * Papers Past > * Daily Southern Cross > * 20 December 1867 > * Page 3 > * INQUEST AT SHORTLAND TOWN. (FROM A CORRESPONDENT.) 3. Hi, if helpful, there is an address given when that baby (older brother of George Patrick Aloysius) died aged 3 months. DEATHS.(Christchurch NZ) Star , Issue 8090, 16 August 1904, Page 3 "SLOANE - August 14, at the Tram Road, Ohoka, Aloysius George, infant son of Arthur and Elizaneth A. SLOANE; aged three months. Funeral This Day, leaving at 12 o;clock for the Rangiora Catholic Cemetery." Here are the NZ Electoral Rolls for George Patrick Aloysius SLOANE and his wife Ivy Gwenda nee GALBRAITH Cheers Brenda New Zealand, Electoral Rolls, 1853-1981 about George Patrick Sloane 1935 George Patrick Aloysius Sloane and Ivy Gwenda, living Railway Avenue, Rotorua, he is a 'Porter' and Ivy is 'Married'. Note, from now on, the rest of the entries give his first two names of George Patrick without the 'Aloysius'. 1946, 1949, 1954, 48 Gordon Road, Mt. Albert Auckland he is a 'Milkman' and Ivy is with him, 'Married'. 1957,1963, same as above but his occupation is changed to 'Taxi Driver' 1978 - Re-Married.. living in New Lynn, 2/405 Blockhouse Bay Road 'NS' (National Superannuation, the pension) also living at the same address is 'Elizabeth Mary SLOANE, 'Married'. so he must have re-married after Ivy died. 1981 same as above except his occupation is now given as 'Retired', Elizabeth Mary is living there 'Married'. 3. Cecil Linden Sloane was born 18th February, 1908. Although on his marriage certificate it is stated as 8th March, 1913. Big mystery. He came from Regina, Canada to New Zealand where he lived for a few years at Mt. Eden. As to whether he lived in other parts of New Zealand is unknown. From there he came & lived in Australia until his death in 1973. He would have been in his late teens or early twenties when he left Canada. We have recently come across his engagement notice in the Toowoomba Chronicle newspaper stating that he is the twin son of the late Mr. & Mrs. P. L. Sloane, Regina, Canada. We have no idea as to what these initials stand for as on his marriage certificate his father is named as Cecil George Sloane & his mother as Ethel May Walsh. Listing his fathers occupation as Chemist. In his will he declared having shares in the New Zealand Pine Plantation, but for which our solicitor was unable to turn up any information with reference to same. On his Army records he named an Ivy Sloane as next of kin. We do not know as to exactly where this person resided, but we are assuming that maybe she might be from New Zealand as a connection of where he may have come in contact with during his time in New Zealand. In our research we did find an Ivy Gwenda Sloane and a George Patrick Sloane as a married couple in the New Zealand Census which depicted their place of residence as Mt. Eden and we are wondering as to whether this could be a connection. We don't know of course as to whether this is purely name sake or otherwise, but if anyone could assist us as to whether or not this is a possible lead we would truly appreciate. Possible siblings as Pierre, Reveille or could be spelt Reville & Gladys. One sister was a Nun. Regards Croydon & Janette.

I have just now sent an email to citizens advice centre Whangarei asking for a look up in the local telephone directory ( maybe the white pages online is not accurate) and their most recent electoral rolls for the area of Onerahi. Hopefully, they are both still living independently and are not in a resthome with dementia. Cheers all. Will update you on my find. Lee
