Penne, The most likely source of photos would be the families. Do you know if Thomas and Olive had children? Their dates of death are given in the cemetery search list on-line for Manukau Memorial Gardens. The dates will lead to death notices for names of any children. Maurice and Ellie were buried at Kelvin Grove, Palmerston North and the local papers there might have useful death notices. As others have said, Shortland is now part of Thames. Thames is on the Hauraki Gulf (or Firth of Thames) and in 1867 the main transport there from Auckland would have been by boat. On his Army records he named an Ivy Sloane as next of kin. I have just now sent an email to citizens advice centre Whangarei asking for a look up in the local telephone directory ( maybe the white pages online is not accurate) and their most recent electoral rolls for the area of Onerahi.
