Hello, I am trying to track burials for my ancestors from 1851. The death records record the burial location as Auckland (no cemetery). Does anyone know where burials at this time would have been? I have tried Symonds Street but no luck. Their names were Parker. Peter Parker, 1864, Peter Parker 1851, Bridget Parker 1894. They were living in Howick as the father Peter Parker was a fencible. Any clues would be helpful (They were Roman Catholic). Thanks Fran

I am newly subscribed to this list and seek assistance from to some kind soul, who has access to Auckland area electoral rolls and/or newspapers, to trace a couple on an outer branch of my family tree. This is what I know: John Richard COLLIN (b1882 Middlesbrough N. Yorkshire), a grocer by trade, left the U.K. in October 1912 bound for N.Z. and at some time not determined was joined by his wife, Fanny (nee WADLOW b 1880 Middlesbrough). They apparently visited the U.K. c1948, their home address at that time being 8 Normans Hill Road, Onehunga. I have it in mind that electoral rolls would help determine how long they resided in the area and that the local papers may carry notices of their demise or funeral reports. Stan L. Hi Michele, There is a flat rate charge for getting copies of probate files from Archives New Zealand. I can't remember the price right now, but it's on their web site, somewhere between $20 and $30. Check out their guides at http://www.archives.govt.nz/resources/research-resources for more information. Hope this helps. :-) Kind Regards, Wendy Howard *** Please reply to the list *** -- Kaiwaka, Northland, New Zealand http://freepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~wendyh65/ <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/%7Ewendyh65/> -----Original Message----- *Subject:* [NZ-AUCKLAND] PROBATE RECORDS *Sent:* Fri, 23 Jul 2010 21:28:17 +1000 *From:* lynsmum <[email protected]> *To:* [email protected] > Hi list, > > Am interested in purchasing probate records for my gguncle from Auckland Archives. > > Could SKS who has done so advise me of its costs and how long could it take to be completed? > > Many thanks for any assistance. > > Michele in Sydney OZ

Hi listers I have a Carl William WEISS and his wife Amelia nee DEITZ who arrived from the port of Hamburg in Brisbane QLD in October 1878. They stayed there about 11 weeks. On his application for naturalization under an Australian law, Carl stated that they spent 7 years in New Zealand. They hailed from Prussia, Province of Westphalia, Pommern. About 1884, a son was born at Kawakawa (Charles William Weiss) About 1887, another son was born in NZ (Frederick Henry Weiss) They were back in Australia (Greta NSW) in 1891 when another child was born. From Greta it seems they moved to Muswellbrook (also in the Hunter Valley of NSW) and then to Hamilton, a suburb of Newcastle NSW where they were when Carl applied for naturalization. You'll see that the dates don't quite add up so some leeway might be required. The WEISS family seemed to be involved in the management of hotels. I don't know when or how they arrived in New Zealand. I don't know when etc they left NZ for NSW. In PapersPast there is a reference to a Mr WEISS as a dissident voice at a public meeting. This could be my man: Papers Past — Northern Advocate — 13 August 1887 — "AT KAWAKAWA". The only other reference is to a Mrs WEISS losing a liquor licence in 1906 but this seems to be unlikely as the family were in NSW at teh time. Any connections? Any suggestions? Regards Ian J in Sydney

Michelle Have you checked the Auckland Library website? http://www.aucklandcitylibraries.com/DigitalLibrary/topicpages/Auckland.aspx There is also an ask a librarian part which you could ask as I am sure I have looked this up a few years ago for my McIntosh family. Hi list, I found the above subject in Papers Past. How long before publishing the details would the list be finalised with their names? I am trying to establish the arrival date of a relative into Auckland but can't find the date in the newspapers. I know their 1st child was registered in March 1851. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Michele in Sydney NSW
