I am not able to help you with any of this, but wanted to let you know that I am forwarding this note onto the rootsweb BROWNLEE list (which also covers BROWNLIE -- one of my own families, but not as far as I know connected with your Lanarkshire BROWNLIEs.) 3. Hi all, I have been, with the grateful assistance of others, transcribing the Inquest notes of my Great Grandmother Bethea (Bertha) GEMMELL nee BROWNLIE, wife of William GEMMELL, both of Scotland. An Inquest was held because of the sudden death of a previously healthy young woman. The notes were obtained under the NZ 'Freedom of Information Act' and when arrived the background was black and the writing in white, handwritten, obviously quickly noted down as people spoke and very difficult to read. My Great Grandfather stated that he had been away for about six weeks working in Oamaru and he was told of his wife's illness by notices being nailed to the trees to tell the men that if they saw 'Bill GEMMELL', (William Gemmell) to tell him to go home because his wife was very ill / dying. It would be very nice to contact descendants of, in particular, two women who had assisted Bethea in her time of great need before she died at Mosgiel, Otago aged 30 years old and they must have also helped with her children as my Grandmother Bethea Marguerite GEMMELL (later STRONG) was only a baby of four months old at the time, her older siblings, Jean/Jane GEMMELL (later COPPINS) was 5yrs old, her brother David who was 4yrs old and sister Mary (later FOSTER) was 2yrs old. The family are very grateful to these women who were probably busy with their own families at the time but were kind enough to care for the children and Bertha. Bethea BROWNLIE was born 1st Feb 1888 in ‘Waddell’s Land, New Dundyvan’ Old Monkland Lanark Scotland; parents Claude BROWNLIE & Jean/Jane BLACK,; married William GEMMELL April 1882 Glasgow, Scotland and died 16th June 1888 Mosgiel, Otago New Zealand. 1. 3. Hi John, > My GGGF Henry Solomon Meyers/Myers died in Auckland ... 31 Oct 1896. He is buried in the Jewish section ... In accessing the site on Monday I received a message saying no record. But he is there! Knowing that you had difficulty finding him, I searched on the given names only and there he was in the search results, Henry Solomon MYERS. Perhaps you mis-typed his name? http://www.waitakere.govt.nz/cnlser/cm/cemeterysearch/default.aspx Hope this helps. :-) Kind Regards, Wendy Howard *** Please reply to the list *** -- Kaiwaka, Northland, New Zealand http://freepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~wendyh65/ <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/%7Ewendyh65/>

    3. My GGGF Henry Solomon Meyers/Myers died in Auckland tragically and as he was a member of the Jewish faith, they buried him even though most of his family lived in Sydney. Henry married in Auckland in 1867 and I now note he died 31 Oct 1896. He is buried in the Jewish section and my wife and I found his grave in 2006 and asked the same stone masons who set his head stone to repair his grave. This was done. In accessing the site on Monday I received a message saying no record. No big deal, just making a point about ease of access. John Meyers

What cemetery are you talking about, and/or what is your GGGF's name? I can only guess that you're referring to Waikumete Cemetery, which was the topic of the last post to this list, which opened in 1908 according to their web site (http://www.waitakere.govt.nz/cnlser/cm/index.asp).
