    3. Hello Peter Hi Peter As I live in Greenhithe, near the North Shore Crematorium, I went this afternoon and found the plaque on the Memorial Wall for your lady. (Photo to follow to you - OFF LIST). It reads In loving memory of Agnes Myrtle Brooks 25 April 1904 - 22 November 1999 A truly gracious lady Kind regards Sandra, Greenhithe, Auckland NZ Michael, Milford, Auckland DIGEST sent......... Given the North Shore reference, I checked Schnapper Rock Rd Cemetery records to confirm this was the cemetery so the reference to the wall indicates a potential plaque on the wall there which may indicate some next of kin, or very close friends, do exist in Auckland. It may be worth trying to see if someone can check the New Zealand Herald for the dates indicated below (sorry, I can't offer to do this myself at the present) and also by doing a follow up with Dil's who may be able to tell you something about who may have taken responsibility for the funeral etc. >>>snip>>>

    3. Hi Margaret, Thank you for responding. I did try the Funeral Directors, but I suppose that like here in OZZ privacy laws prevent people from helping each other. They responded and advised that the funeral was arranged by a cousin, Shirley WATKINSON. I am sure that there were no other GLOVER descendents in New Zealand by 1999 so this lady would have been from Agnes' father's family and unlikely to know anything of the adventures and travails of the GLOVERS etc between 1860 and 1900 in Otago and Westland. In any case I would suspect that 11 years after the death of a 95 year old lady the rest of her generation would most likely have passed on as well. 3. Please be aware that when you use a bookmark to check on burials in the Auckland area. ie in my case the North Shore City, a header comes up to say use Auckland City website, so if you need any lookups I suggest you get them done before all kinds of "improvements" are implemented. North Shore is still useable under its old website, but looks as though access in the future will only be via the Super City website and its attendant red tape.cheers penne

    3. HI Michelle Although I cant answer your question regarding the appearance in Course, I can answer what Ray has just told you.....your Mr Crew was called up for Military in 1914, in what capacity I don't have the info available but he obviously remained alive. Are you aware that he married Gladys Rose DOOLEY in 1923. (............1924 PERIOD MISSING.................). He divorced Gladys (Auckland High Court) in 1932 and then married Evelyn Arthur ROSS in 1934 (Source: NZ Marriages CD 1836-1956). He is listed as a War Pensioner and lived in Kingsland Auckland. There is a Probate available at www.archives.govt.nz - Auckland office. This may/may not help you identify descendants. I can't see any deaths for either Francis or Evelyn CREW. Could they have returned to their homeland?? I also note that in 1919 there was a Francis Charles CREW attended school in Invercargill (South Island) - not sure if any relevance to your man) Good luck Sandra Auckland NZ -------------------------------------------------- From: "Ray" <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, October 30, 2010 10:40 AM To: <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [NZ-AUCKLAND] FRANCIS CHARLES CREW BORN 1 FEBRUARY 1878AUSTRALIA.... 3. Hi Michelle, This list is only for Auckland queries. Given that your people didn't stay around the Auckland area, you may have better success posting to a list that covers the whole country. The New Zealand list is at http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/NZL/NEW-ZEALAND.html I've already responded to the courts question in another thread. I don't know where you'd find information about a boarding house in Queen Street, other than newspapers (you're already familiar with PapersPast (http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/), you could try libraries for other publications not found there) and trade directories such as Wises. Have you looked at BDM Online - Historical Records (https://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/Home/) to identify your man's children? Hope this helps. :-) Kind Regards, Wendy

    3. Hi Michelle, > Charles Francis Crew was remanded in Petone Feb 22, 1924 to appear in Auckland Magistrate Court - is there any where that I can find if Charles appeared in court and what was his sentence. You've asked this before, and I take it no-one has responded? That's probably 'cos no-one here on this list knows the answers you seek. I don't, but I'll try to apply some logic to it... You could start by asking the court in question if they still hold those records - I don't know for sure, but I imagine the modern-day equivalent to the Auckland Magistrate Court is the Auckland District Court. By doing a search of the online White Pages for DISTRICT COURT in Auckland (http://www.whitepages.co.nz/) I've found that it's the Ministry of Justice you're after, and they have a listing at http://yellow.co.nz/whitepages/Auckland-Central/Justice-Ministry-of/102010527_GOV.html If they don't hold the records, enquire at Archives New Zealand (http://www.archives.govt.nz/) to see if they can help you. 3. Michelle: I see that you say that he disappeared after 1914. That was the year of the outbreak of World War I. Perhaps he enlisted -- either in NZ forces or Oz forces. In NSW, if I can't find the death of a male, I go straight to the www.naa.gov.au site and search for him, and frequently find him, his having died in a war; and therefore not appearing on state death indexes, registers, etc. Now, in your case, as he re-appeared in 1924, he didn't die overseas, but he might still have served in one of the forces in the war. >From memory there are NZ military lists online: google to see if you can find them. 3. Hi Sandra, I have found an Agnes Elizabeth BROOKS died 1943, registration # 1943/25951, I believe that her maiden name was GLOVER born 1870/71 in Stafford on the West Coast. Her Brother William died in Palmerston North in 1941 and in an obituary it refers to a sister in Auckland Mrs A E BROOKS. The probate details which you found I think come from the intestate death of her husband. The name Agnes Elizabeth GLOVER intrigues me, did you find this on a NZGS document or a registration record? I know a lot about Alexander Millar EYES, he was my G grandfather. He married Barbara Fullarton GLOVER in Stafford where he was the Receiver of Gold, she had been born in Ballarat where her parents had married. Alexander Millar's father, William Henry EYES, was several times Superintendent of Marlborough, a member of the first Marlborough Provincial Council and a Member of the House of Representatives. I have written a history of the EYES family so far as New Zealand is concerned and did offer a copy to the Parliamentary Library, but besides an acknowledgement of my offer I have had no other correspondence from them. But I am only an amateur. I have corresponded with another GLOVER descendent who lives just north of Brisbane and she has told me that a descendent or descendents in Auckland have details of the journey of the GLOVER family and Agnes GLOVER Snr's family named WILDRIDGE over the Alps by way of the Haast Pass. I would like to find details of the lives of the GLOVER and WILDRIDGE families on the gold fields. I have found that the BROOKS had at least one child, Agnes Myrtle, born 1904; I have found no others within the accessible dates from the BMD records. Any descendents of Agnes Myrtle would obviously have a different surname and the accessible records do not permit a search to find who she may have married. Thank you for your response, I will try to find out more about Agnes Elizabeth GLOVER died 09/01/1943.
