    2. Brenda MacCulloch
    3. Hi all, a friend has asked me to find what happened to his cousin who came out to New Zealand in the 1940's. Mother's maiden surname was JONES first name 'Beaty', father was Albert. According to the family, he went to work on a Sheep Farm or Station (in NZ) and married the Farmer's daughter. Possible Marriages ERNEST ALBERT TAYLOR 1944 Margaret Lavina TOPPING 03294 (the only marriage with Ernest Albert). There are some just 'Ernest' and some Albert Ernest's the numbers after the marriage details are the Folio numbers for the marriage. 1941 Beryl KINSON 12189 1943 Annie Jackabeen maureen MERCHANT 05128 1948 Edith MENELAUS 06327 Naturalisation Date 8 July 1977 Ernest Albert TAYLOR born 8 Nov 1922 Cardiff Wales, aged 54 (Died 1988) 1988/49118 Taylor Ernest Albert Born 8 November 1922 Any help would be wonderful as the family in Wales lost track of him and would like to know his descendants. His brother survived WW2 but died soon after and that was the end of the Welsh branch of the family. Cheers Brenda Hamilton New Zealand

    3. I would just like to thank everyone on the list who has helped me today off list with this family. In no time at all I had them figured out. I have ordered a marriage certificate for Elizabeth TRIMBLE who married Frederick Arthur PURVIS who were the parents of Amy and Grace that I was asking about. Hoping that this will lead me to learn more about the TRIMBLE side of the family and work out which ones in Belfast are mine. I really appreciate all the help and thought I should say thankyou on list as well as off so that others know what a helpful group of people are here. Regards Lyn In Oz.

    1. [NZ-AUCKLAND] Purvis Darsham Auckland
    2. Lyn
    3. Hi everyone I am hoping someone on the list will be able to help me research a new lead in my family. In 1950 a member of my SHAW family in Belfast, Sara Campbell SHAW bequeathed money in her Will to her cousins Amy and Grace Purvis DARSHAM of Nikau Street, New Lynn, Auckland New Zealand. Sara was the daughter of O'Connell SHAW and Margaret TRIMBLE and I do not think that these cousins are on the SHAW side. In another unrelated document dated 1901 there is mention of an Elizabeth T PURVIS to do with a WHITE estate who would be related to the TRIMBLE side. I suspect Elizabeth may be the mother of Amy and Grace. I have searched the online BMD indexes and cannot find any DARSHAM/DERSHAM entries, I have tried Familysearch and am not having much luck at all. Are there any online directories for Auckland that I could check? Any help would be most appreciated. Regards Lyn In Oz.

    3. Hi Penne Thanks for your replies - I have seen the information on BDM 's, it came to our attention from the cemetery - our library is only very small so we don't have a genealogy section - I have ordered the death certificate, the parents did not write a will..There is no online papers that she this birth or death.   I found online record for another relative buried in the same cemetery. I will just have to wait for the online death certificate........  do you know where I would access adoption records..... from 1930's...... 1. [NZ-AUCKLAND] "LOST" MILITARY MEDALS
    2. Peter STRAUSS
    3. Please excuse the multiple posting but I think that the search for ancestors war medals may interest people on many lists. This week I was overwhelmed when I received an email from a Lt. Col. at Duntroon Military College, Canberra, advising that he had come into the possession of a medal awarded to my grandfather's brother who had died after being evacuated from Gallipoli. Crawford Ernest EYES was a member of the Canterbury Regiment from Christchurch in New Zealand. I had obtained his Gallipoli Medal and his military record from the New Zealand Defence Force several years ago; my mother had already passed on his family's "Dead Man's Penny". The military record indicated that his mother, my G grandmother, had received his other medals in the early 1920's. Lt. Col. Llanwarne operates the return of "lost" medals as a hobby and had taken less than an hour to find me after contacting the War Memorial Museum in Auckland and moving onto RootsWeb. He does this all for no cost. The current list of medals that he is trying to find a home for is at http://www.lostmedalsaustralia.com/ , and although it refers to Australia the current list includes medals issued to New Zealand and British servicemen that have turned up in Australia. He has also told me of a site called Medals Gone Missing (http://www.medalsgonemissing.com/index.html which looks for lost medals although there may be a charge I have Lt. Col. Llanwarne's approval to pass this info on. Peter Melbourne .

Dorothy Hello again Dorothy Unfortunately I've had three experiences in the past five years on this subject so can help you with info. Hope my answers cover your questions...... A word of caution. Death Certificates are not always accurate - depends on the knowledge of the Informant. Mary's maiden name may be on James's Death Certificate (if you are lucky :-)) ) I can't find anything in my resources because their marriage would have been around 1950's. Dil's Funeral Services will be able to tell you who the Informant was....whether you know that person is another matter. Not always sons/daughters but usually. If James had a WILL in New Zealand, it may be of significant interest ('genie info') to you. If one is available you would purchase through Archives New Zealand - Auckland office www.archives.govt.nz for contact details Usually in New Zealand WILLS, a person stipulates if they have a preference for Burial/Cremation and any other specific details which may include WHERE his ashes are to be interred in the case of James. Sometimes it's just a family discussion and agreement on place of Interment. I have found a 'loose' piece of info which 'MAY' indicate that Mary was born in Manchester, England. Mary's ashes interment: first things first, something may come to light if you follow James's trail first :-)). Otherwise, you could always purchase a copy of Mary's Death Certificate! Depends how badly you want/need the info :-)) New Zealand Death Certificates give the following info (if known by the Informant): DECEASED......PARENTS......RELATIONSHIPS Full Name: Date of Death: Place of Death: sometimes the address, sometimes only the town/city Cause of Death: Name of Certifying Doctor: Gender: Age and date of Birth: Usual home address: Usual Occupation: Date of Burial or Cremation: Place of burial or cremation: Age of each daughter: Age of each son: Mother: Names (if recorded) Father: Names (if recorded) Relationship status at time of death: Relationship type: Age of deceased at event: Place of Marriage: Spouse /partner: name and surname, gender, age (if living) Hope that helps you get to where you want to. I really appreciate it! Dorothy Ottawa, Canada Hi Dorothy Michelle's info would have come off the BDM site as I saw the same information. I doesn't give you info online of where the person is born or died. I've had a look at my resources and only found 1 lead for you. Given that this gentleman only died in 1998 I personally think you would find info faster if you ordered a printout of his Death Certificate online. It costs about $NZ20. You don't need an official Death Certificate as such, just a print out. All the details are here:.......... https://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/Home/ Death: Ref is 1998/17666 I found his Cremation and possibly his wife's details here: http://www.northshorecity.govt.nz/Services/OnlineServices/pages/IFCemetry.as px North Shore Crematorium is over the harbour bridge in Auckland. You will find all the details for the Funeral Director and they may be willing to assist you with and Informant's name for either James or Mary....... It appears that both sets of ashes were uplifted by SOMEBODY. In all my resources I could only find a Henry Arthur Charles CURRIE married Olive Eileen BYRNE as potential parents but Olive would have been very young if James is her son! Not sure if they related to your person. Ref: 1938/12555 Couldn't find any entries on 1911 NZ Electoral Roll. Any census records after this, someone has to go to one of the Public Libraries and research. Another good site for info if there is any: www.archway.archives.govt.nz and google for CURRIE. I found some entries on this site but didn't spend time going through them. These people MAY have had a Death Notice inserted in the NZ Herald newspaper but I doubt if it would be online, being that it is quite recent - 1998. Only way would be a visit to Auckland library to research the newspapers of that month and year. I know this is not possible for you living in Canada, but contact the Auckland Public Library and they may be able to offer a solution and of course a 'fee' :-)) Hope this helps you in your search. 3. To Both Michelle and Margaret, Thank you both for all the wonderful information you sent. I know have the names of their two daughters! I am very grateful for the help I received. Before I subscribed to this list, the only recent piece of information I had on James W. R. Currier was from the McGill University site in Montreal. His name appeared in a memoriam to the students who had attended the university from the 1920s onwards. James Currier graduated in the class of 1952 with a degree in agricutural science. He would have been 22 years then. The date shown on this memorial site agrees with the information you provided and the same date appears on the cemetery list I have from Beechwood Cemetery here in Ottawa. I am wondering at this point who claimed Mary Currier's ashes as her name does not appear on the cemetery list I have. I will write Dil's funeral services and see if they can give me further information. I would like to know if her ashes were returned to Canada. At this point, I don't know Mary's maiden name nor their marriage date. I have never visited NZ but I have seen a number of TV documentaries. You live in a very beautiful country. I heard on this evening's news that you have been receiving a "little" snow. We know all about snow in Canada. I hope you can all put away your shovels soon!
